Nah, Hitler would have come to power anyway, he would have adapted to the situation. He is often referred to as the "worlds greatest actor".

I understand why most of you guys think that the *greatest men of all time* are military types who made wars, but i want you all to think the following:

Hitler and Stalin and the likes made wars, killed thousands, *shaped* borders. The world they *created* is over, though. More than ten years ago. Borders have changed again. New countries emerged. Did this *shape* the lives of all of you? And how?

But if one day the world woke up without electricity our lives would definitely change, wouldn't they?

Well, I don't think I could neither say who was the greatest man...nor the most important...I think that there was a lot of men who made the world better, or changed it...but never 1...
About Hitler...if he was a military genius...he wouldn't go alone to the war against the rest of the world... (sorry for my english)

For Spain: I think the government liked Hitler, but the people didn't. So Hitler, effectively, "conquered" Spain. I'd be hard pressed to find any info on it as Spain is not very...oft mentioned.

I agree with Galatia. Military minds haven't shaped the world the most. I'd have to name those who have shaped our laws and such. Christ would be on, definetly. So too Thomas Jefferson (for the modern constitution), and whoever wrote the first "real" constitution, the Magna Carter (you can't really consider it one though). Thomas Edison was another great.

Oh! I found an interesting fact for you all to digest. The USA is, currently, the oldest country in the world, and we are "eclipsing" the Roman Empire. How do/can I say this? Periods and Hisory. The US is over 200 years old. "Modern" UK is younger as it's monarchy fell and a new government was formed.. So are all other countries. China is messured in "dynasties" up until the Socialist government came to power. Japan became a "newborn" at the end of WWII with the adoption of a completely new government. France went through a revolution shortly after the US broke free. The USA has the oldest standing governmental body, and, therefore, the US is the oldest country.

I know some of you will find this hard to believe, but, if you think about it, it's not hard to believe at all. The US has shaped the world by having the first constitution as it was! The UK, most/all of Europe, Japan, Russia, and many other countries have addapted Thomas Jefferson's constitution into theirs.

History is defined by governments, people, and rulers. Saying this, you should be able to understand that fact that I presented. If you want me to spell out an example, you can give me a country, of course. I just wanted to put that little factoid out there for you all to digest.

Later! I'm out!

Galatia, i argee with you to an extent. the wars and those who headed them really influenced the world, but i think we should give more credit to others, like shakespear. He practically wrote his own dictionary, or marco polo, or to name a group of people, NASA and the Russian space team(not sure what to call them) during the cold war/space race(ahh, is that considered military?).

How about that? hmmm, what do you think? :wavey

NASA and the Russian space program were, decidedly, not military. They recieved seperate funding and had a different mission. Let me define those missions:

Military: Kill people and break stuff.
Space Programs: Expand human knowledge (current). Beat the other guy to the Moon (Cold War)

:p So was Russia. I was just giving the "stated" mission. We all know about "Star Wars".

About Space programs: I dont think that manned Space flights are necessary to *explore* space. People in Space are a *nuisance* and a waste of money, energy (and human lives) compared to what can be achieved by information gathered from un-manned Space flights or in laboratories.

Back to the topic:

Imo, when trying to decide who is the greatest man of all times or who influenced most the world we live in, it is more accurate to think in terms of how many people were influenced, how radically their lives were changed and for how long.

ZeroX, I don't think XenoDancer is a Nazi, just trying to make a point with a...poor example.

Odd thing though... The UN and rest of the world are begging the US to help with Liberia... THANK YOU BUSH for not going in until OUR interests were in jepardy. The UN deserves that. (If you can't tell, I'm fed up with the UN.)

I don't enjoy being called a nazi, the quote below my name is from the TV show "Family Guy".
Consitutions don't mean much in the long run, they have been successfully broken.

Karl Marx may have been a great thinker in your terms, but do you know how many inoccent he killed? And bam, the UN is getting fed up with the US too, they'll be showing their teeth in a little bit, you can quote me on that.

The UN has teath? OH!! SCARY!! (sarcasm if you couldn't tell) If they had these...teeth, they would have shown them a LONG time ago: I.E. actually attacking Iraq and not cowardly firing all workers who suggested that they do.

The UN has never been "fed up" longer than it's been a fad. In other words: It will wear off...a while ago, actually. The US may have disrupted "world affairs" for a while, but it's better than letting Iraq attack and having fingers pointing at us saying, "Why didn't you do something before they reigned mass destruction on us?" Which may well still happen as the UN gave Iraq plenty of time to sell off what they had.

Back on Topic:

Marx effect current politics, eh? Did you miss the part where I said his government has yet to come to fruition? It has always died at socialism, which is a BAD form of government. In any case... I've already named a few people.
