Theres many kinds such DDR SDRAM SRAM DRAM DRAM and there supposed to be a new ram that makes you boot instantly called magnetic ram. But any way whats the diffrence between SDRAM,DDRAM, and RDRAM since thats the one usally used.

well if you want the EXACT technical details, search on google. ive read some stuff abuot it but forgot most of it. in the basics

RAM: random access memory: the memory availabe gets randomly accessed/used. it doesnt get filled up from left to right like one could suppose

SD-RAM: single data ram: this is the old ram standard. it has one data transfer pipe

DDR-RAM: this is what everyone uses by now. DDR = double data rate. this has two pipes for data tranfer and is a lot faster

RDRAM: clock rate RAM: this is used only by pentium based systems. it supports a very high FSB which is a good thing because pentium CPUs have high FSB's.

FSB = front side bus
CPU: central processing unit

FSB * CPU multiplier = CPU core speed. for extended information about how this works exactly, search google.

dual channel: this is a technique supported by newer motherboards. two RAM sticks of the same size and clock speed are being used together in a way so that the performance is improved. so if your motherboard supports this you would want to get 2*256MB RAM instead of 1*512 and so on..

the standard right now is DDR-RAM. RDRAM is only being used with pentium CPus and those arent selling so well because of AMD.... furthermore RDRAM is hell of expensive which goes hand in hand with the halloova expensive Pentium CPUs.

Rambus, which makes RDRAM, is currently suffering.....

DDR, yes, is the standard, and despite the obscene speeds of RDRAM (800/1066Mhz and even higher) performance doesn't actually vary much between RDRAM and DDR.

Never knew any of that. I thought it was just RAM...
