Screw reading the whole thing, so here's my opinion...
If I were a criminal, I'd MUCH rather have death penalty then prison, unless it's a short amount of time; only a few months. But then, death penalties are usualy given for very serious offences, so that would be years, instead.
If I were in charge of deciding penalties, lifetime in prison would be the ultimate.

"they get tv,pretty good food, gym, books etc."
Not as I understand it. But then, I don't know much about prison and crap, so what I know doesn't mean much.
But then, if we're talking about the idea of shortening the delay for death penalty, wouldn't reducing prison to bare minimums be easy enough for government and crap?
I know someone who went to prison, and according to him, basicaly, prison sucks. Main thing he did was play... um... DnD...

Just like to point out on thing.

In Canada, in 1972 or whatever when the death penalty was abolished, Murder and crime rates went down by half and continues to decrease.

I don't believe in the Death Penalty. The guy who murdered whoever is already behind bars for most or all of his life, most likely without parole, would killing him make that much of a difference? Or is it some form of revenge that's taken, a revenge that the family of the victim salivates for?

So one family tastes their sweet revenge, but what happens to the killer's family? Or does being related to a killer make them imperviable to emotional damage somehow.

I'm against the death penalty mostly because I cannot trust any set of human beings to carry out that severe of a punishment.

It is also subjected to racial and social biases.

It has been banned by most humane nations.

It is used as a tool to silence and opress around the world.

You cannot say that when crime rates go down and the death penalty is still in practice that it is a direct result of the death penalty because there are so many other factors that have a larger influence on crime rate.

Yea, i totally agree with most of you and another reason is if they were really telling the truth and they didnt murder or something else and they died by the death pen. I think that the most painful way is to sit in Jail for the rest of your life.

There is a reason why they take so long to kill someone on the death penaty.
lets just say the person was framed. If you kill him then find out his innocent whos gonna bring him back? So they take a long time serching for any mistakes and shitz

Okay, probably an overused topic, but we were discussing it in my history class today and I want to see some other opinions.

About a third of my class said the death penalty was inhumane and should be abolished.

Another third said they should leave the death penalty alone, and that the system works as is.

The final third, myself included, think that those sentenced to the death penalty should be carried out sooner.

My opinion is that the one sentenced to death should be allowed one appeal. If the appeal fails, the sentenced should be allowed a day or so to say goodbye to loved ones and friends. Then they should be killed. I don't particularly care how, but they should die a lot sooner than they do now.
-I am probably on the side that thinks we should leave the system as it is. Having a 3-year appeal process gives you enough time while in prison to look up whatever you want and find out if you were screwed over in your trial or if there was anything done wrong at your trial. The only other alternative I would give to the death penalty is to have people who are sentenced to life in prison work every day on public service projects. (Building roads...etc.) Why not put them to work? I think it would be easier anyways.
