Steam - low fps!

Hi... I am having some problems with steam...
I keep getting 30-50 fps.
When the main menu comes up its 100 fps...
v. sync is off...
my rates are 25000 - 101 -101, ive updated my drivers and my AGP port.
I have a gf 4 ti 4600 on a P4 with 2000mhz.
If u have ANY clue pls email me or reply... i am greatful for all help! thx alot!

in your file config.cfg in the cstrike folder check the value for fps_max, other than that you could try running a system speed test to check if its counter strike related. if yes then i cant help you :& which res and so on are u playing on

III. Graphical Issues

1. Q: Why is my framerate in CS 1.6 so much lower than it was in CS 1.5?
A: For some reason, Steam likes to use the wrong opengl file to run Counter-Strike. Follow these steps to fix this problem:

- Open your Windows\System32 directory and search for the following file (based on your hardware):
- Nvidia-based card: nvoglnt.dll
- ATI-based card: atioglxx.dll
- Any other card: opengl.dll
- Copy this file (DO NOT remove it) into your \Steam\SteamApps\user@email\Counter-Strike\gldrv folder
- Edit the drvmap.txt file as follows:

Default Default
gldrv/(YOUR FILE).dll OpenGL Driver

This should make your FPS just about equivalent to the FPS you had in 1.5, assuming you hadn't tweaked the game's configuration for performance.

Taken from the FAQ sticky posted above. If you still have low FPS after this fix, post your system specs (CPU speed, RAM, graphics card, graphics driver version).

256mb ram
2.2ghz p4
Intel Extreme Graphics(82845-old one)

This is my pc stats.

(CPU) 1-Intel® Pentium® 4 CPU 2.00GHz, 1991MHz, 512KB (0% Load) .:. (RAM) usage: 285/512MB (55.66%) .:. (GFX) NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4600, (Display) 1152x864/32bit/72Hz

(OS) Windows XP Professional, Service Pack 1 (5.1 - 2600), (installed for) 5w 3d 18h 14m, (uptime) 1h 8m 23s .:. (HDDs) 42.7G/74.5G(57.4%) free

Try turning off some stuff, your ram usage is high. When I play cs I usualy have around 180ish ram used out of 728.

Twisted rat i have... I close msn, irc and when ingame i press ctrl + alt + del and close steam for maximun performance... but still aint 100... sometimes when i stand still in a dark inviorment i get 110 with develepor 1 :/ strange i know...
