I was thinking about the concept of reliance and how humans are completely relaint on everything. For instance cars, porn, women, battleforums, etc... Furthermore it scares me to think that every single citizen of each country is literally eating out of the palm of their hands and that most people don't even realize. We are controlled like zombies and I don't like it. I don't know about you but I am going to try to become more reliant on myself rather than on others, although this will prove to be a near impossible task. Whats your intake on this concept?

I think it's good to be able to rely on yourself, but it's also nice to have other people who are there for you.

We really have no choice but to follow the government, living by their laws and playing by their rules....But I think it's still possible to retain your individuality, despite all of that.

Anyway, good luck ^_^

It is good to rely on yourself for things like stopping a bad habit or learning a new skill, but it is nice to have other people to rely on when you're down and seriously need help. Its important to have a balance of reliance on others and reliance on yourself.

You should read some material from Ralph Waldo Emerson or any other transcendentalist writer. All they write about is independance and how one should not conform to society/government.

Well heres a suggestion: Go into a uninhabited place, grow your own vegetables, don't have any money or buy anything, make your own house, and the tools to build it, cut your own trees, make your own paper, make your own pens, make your own knives and forks, make your own fertilizers for the crops you'll be growing, never post here again unless you make your own computer from scratch and make a better internet so we'll all go on it, never use any method that has been done before. If you do all that and more you'll still be dependant so quit caring of how much we are like dependant zombies and enjoy life for what the goverment gives you. You should be happy your not independant or you have someone to rely on. We should stop trying to be what our perception tell us is "independant" and just well, live, I bet that you would be a lot more unique than the others that try to be different. This doesn't mean that we shouldn't try do things for ourselves, sometimes it's good to do things on our own without help but being completely independant is impossible so stop trying.

We must all try to rely on ourselves and only ourselves but we must never forget that we are not living alone on this planet. We dont really need other people in order to reach our goals but we really need to live with other people.

our ideas and inventions would be so far behind if we didn't work together and rely on others. We would have no where near what we have now adays. its quite ludicris to think that relying on others and helping each other isn't for the benifit of all.

The sociological view that are placed upon people today suggest us to become original. Peoples originality has become more fluent in different aspects of society but their dependency upon others has also grown. I agree people are too dependent on othe people. But to suceed in life some to rely on others means that you will get ahead. Sure Depending on others is good in some ways like it helps us through our average day. But try not to be a klingon and rely on everyone. Be original and independent.

You can't be original, or there is a very low chance. People are actually becoming a bit less dependant. Being able to rely on yourself is very useful, if someone can't come through for you then, do it yourself.

Thats why God was created; because people don't like to be alone.

Yeah, I agree with just about everyone in here...and I have found myself guilty of relying on people...VERY FEW TIMES might I add. Normally I only rely on people for money and transportation cause I'm a bum =\ But with everything else I manage to get ahead with my intellect and find judgement ;)

Why not rely on other people? what is wrong with it? in the end i don't think anyone can be fully trusted and i think it is important to have your own identity. but i think the only thing that matters in life is people and your relationship with them. thats it.

Lol, the human race wouldn't exist without people relying on other people. How do you think our ancestors survived? The lived in tribes and hunted with eachother, much like we do today but we're just in a LOT bigger tribes (btw the EU got 10 more countries added to it recently). A man relys on a woman for a baby and vis-versa, we all don't live in area suitable for growing crops, so we do a job that benifits someone else and we get oney for it then we buy food and it benifits them.

We are a massive network of people relying on eachother, we are trying to cooperate and share intellegence over recent terrorists attacks "together we are stronger"(I remember that line of a cheesy advert but it fits).

In friendships relying on eachother can help a lot like helping eachother on homework or borrowing money to give back when the other party is in need of it. Dependance is human nature, we all do it so don't fight it. NO matter how dependant we are we will be who we are, our personalitys will still be funny boring or jolly.

Depending on eachother is completely fine but people are worried about getting let down. As long as you have someone reliable to depend on. All people/things make errors it's like arguing that people shouldn't work.

We're interdependent beings, its a fact, and its a good thing too!

From an economic perspective: interdependence encourages specialization, specialization=greater efficiency. How well would you fare on an island all by yourself?

cxoli, individuality is an illusion. Course we'd all 'like' to think we're 'special', 'unique' (note how these are synonymous to 'weird'), etc... Problem is, as social beings we're also social conformists.

I disagree. I think that if individuality were an illusion, our own consciousnesses would have to be an illusion, because no two people think or feel exactly the same things; despite the fact that we are all very similar, we are still individuals. I also think that despite the fact that we are social beings, there are those who do not conform. These might be the people who are considered "weird," but at least they're making an effort to be different in a world that is all about living up to everyone else's standards. As for me, I'd like to believe that I'm an individual, and I'd rather be considered "weird" than be thought of as being like everyone else.
