How to apply items to charactar?

I am able to work all types of Mods and drops but can't figure out how to get charms that I make or whites into the charactars in the game. The mods and drops were easy with written instructions but the files that I down load with whites or programs that make whites or charms make files and I have no idea how to apply these items to charactars. Please Help
