Medusa, The Gorgon

General Info:

Medusa is a surprisingly resilient hero with a wide array of skills that fulfill numerous roles. She’s got great stat development and is she’s useful pretty much all game. It’s really hard to profile her an early/mid/late game when she’s such an excellent hero all game. Her rainbow of skills allow her to carry, tank, farm, and even debuff. Medusa is, essentially, a jack of all trades, but ideally she’s a great carrier.

Skills:

Split Shot

Medusa magically splits her shot into three arrows. These arrows deal a lower percent of her normal damage.

Level 1 - 45% damage
Level 2 - 55% damage
Level 3 - 65% damage
Level 4 - 75% damage

**It splits your single shot into a shot that hits multiple targets. A fantastic skill for mid/late game, but not near as useful early game when your damage is so low. You truly need to buff up your damage in able to make useful this skill, but when you do get that extra damage this skill is excellent and depending on how buff your damage is you could use this to clean house in a push.**

Chain Lightning

Hurls a bolt of damaging lightning at a target enemy that jumps to nearby enemies. Each jump deals less damage.

Level 1 - 75 damage, jumps 3 times – 90 Mana
Level 2 - 150 damage, jumps 5 times – 105 Mana
Level 3 - 225 damage, jumps 7 times – 125 Mana
Level 4 - 300 damage, jumps 9 times – 145 Mana

**And excellent nuke to use on heroes for harassment and an even better farming skill. There’s nothing better than being able to nuke an enemy hero and having it bounce down and kill a few creeps for you. Spamming this early on can help you farm greatly.**

Mana Shield

Creates a shield that absorbs 50% of the incoming damage by using Medusa's mana.

Level 1 - .75 damage per point of mana
Level 2 - 1.25 damage per point of mana
Level 3 - 1.5 damage per point of mana
Level 4 - 2 damage per point of mana

**Another great ability. It turns your flimsy, agility carry hero into a pretty incredible tank. When you consider your survivability will also benefit from both health regeneration and mana regen. It doesn’t absorb all damage, so it’s not something you want to turn on only in danger situations. It’s best to leave it on as much as possible to mitigate damage.**

Purge

Casts a powerful anti-magic buff at a target enemy unit. Slows movement and attack speeds for 5 seconds.

Level 1 - Slows speed by a factor of 2. – 60 Mana
Level 2 - Slows speed by a factor of 3. – 60 Mana
Level 3 - Slows speed by a factor of 5. – 60 Mana
Deals 600 damage to summoned units.

**A spammable and awesome ultimate. It doesn’t sound great on paper, but it’s one of my favorite skills in DotA. It slows, removes buffs and runes, and does high damage on summons. There’s nothing like being able to purge off a DD rune or Sven’s God’s Strength.**

Lvl 18+: Stats

Yeah, another build based around stats. As I said in one of my other character guides, stats in the early game are make and break. They are excellent for survival, damage, and nuke spamming. The early game stats makes spamming your chain lightning possible which can make you a very annoying harasser because you already have an excellent mana pool. Stats also help out with Mana Shield and Multi-Shot when you level them. Plus they add the bit of damage that helps Medusa last hit.

Item Builds

My typical build is..

1. Basilus Ring
2. Perseverance
3. Radiance
4. Butterfly
5. Wraith Band (until a new carry item – Mjolnir preferably)
6. Wraith Band

The mana and health regeneration should be clear. You benefit from both more than anyone else with Mana Shield. Even better the mana regen lets you demolish with Chain Lightning with a practically non-stop supply of mana with stats and mana regen. Radiance is essentially the best bang-for-the-buck DPS item, especially when it comes to Medusa. Butterfly should be your second carry item for survivability, attack speed, and damage. Eventually, hopefully, you’ll be able to work towards Mjolnir which will essentially seal the game.

Gameplay Tips
-Buy clarity potions if you mana regen isn’t keeping up with your spamming, or if you aren’t farming as well as you’d hope and Void Stone/Pers seem further off than you had hoped.
-Don’t be afraid to play as a debuffer. Guinsoo on Medusa now is actually a very effective build now. Especially with the multi stats and mana regen.
