Good quotes. Especially the one on peace. Too true.
"Not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." -Albert Einstein (1879-1955)
(Sounds a bit like the voting system, maybe...?)

"That which does not kill us makes us stronger" -Friedrich Nietzsche (1844-1900)
(Please wait while i stab myself so i can become stronger. *blood squirts everywhere.*)

"Cogito, ergo sum" (I think, therefore I exist!) -Rene Descartes (1596-1650)
i'm guessing that's close to "i think therefore i am" from...what's his name...
and what is that? Latin? Greek?

Dude! check Pan out! i'm in the presence of a philosopher! Where are you getting this??

"For man, the unexamined life is not worth living." -Socrates

"Know thyself." -Socrates

"One thing only I know, and that is that I know nothing." -Socrates

"I do not agree with a word you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." - Voltaire

And Verago, i think it was Socrates that said "I think therefore i am." But i'm probably wrong, so don't take my word for it...

has anyone seen Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure? They misprononce Socrates' name as so- crates. It's hilarous. i guess u just have to be there, i was laughing my head off...and a quote: "Today is the first day of the rest of your life."

"Only the dead have seen the end of War"
-Plato?

Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children. This is not a way of life at all in any true sense. Under the clouds of war, it is humanity hanging on a cross of iron.
--Dwight Eisenhower

"I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones. "

"Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. Hate multiplies hate, violence multiplies violence, and toughness multiplies toughness in a descending spiral of destruction....The chain reaction of evil -- hate begetting hate, wars producing more wars -- must be broken, or we shall be plunged into the dark abyss of annihilation"

"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature, and has no chance of being free unless made or kept so by the exertions of better men than himself. "

"going to war without France is like going deer hunting without an accordion. You just leave a lot of useless noisy baggage behind"

Another Edgar Allen Poe from The Raven. (God, i love that poem. =) )

Presently my soul grew stronger; hesitating then no longer,
"Sir," said I, "or madam, truly your forgiveness I implore;
But the fact is, I was napping, and so gently you came rapping,
And so faintly you came tapping, tapping at my chamber door,
That I scarce was sure I heard you." Here I opened wide the door;---
Darkness there, and nothing more.
