Don't get the 9600SE.... It is crippled version of it's bigger brothers (9600, 9600Pro, 9600XT). It is also a 64mb video card unlike it's bigger brothers.

The Athlon 2400 is almost outdated its probly not much of an upgrade from what you have... go for the 3200 if u can.

Idefy: My current is a Pentium II 350 Mhz..ANYTHING is better.

AxL: It's a 128 Mb card, not 64 Mb..

Besides you guys, my mom said to keep it around 400$..

After shipping it's 386$..

WTF are you smoking? It all depends on the card. Oh and you wasted your money on the 256 card. No game requires 256mb and the difference you get between lets say Radeon 9800PRO 128mb and Radeon 9800PRO 256mb is maybe a few FPS.

Oh and Viz the system would look a lot better if you could bring the 9600SE to at least a 9600.

If you are willing to go $27.60 over your budget, NewEgg has a Sapphire Radeon 9600XT for $152. If you did go with that your total would be $427.60. Your budget is around $400 right? If you can get your mom to cough it up or you can reach into your own pocket you will be much MUCH happier with the Radeon 9600XT.

*All prices are USD

No game requires it..... yet.. the 256 is generally better than my old one which was geforce 4 128 mg. Its makes the computer run faster, it improves the graphics of games, you can increase the resoulotion... it has an "over drive" mode, **** knows what its for because it'll probally never get used... everything looks so... NEAT yes it does increase the framerate a LOT. A few frame rates my ass 9800PRO is a rip off and cant do what most 256's can do compared to the 128s.

By the time a game does need 256mb the technology on the card will be outdated compared to the newer 256mb cards. Oh and yes the difference between a 9800PRO 128mb and a 9800PRO 256mb is maybe less then 5 frames. Which is not that much at all.

Depends on the hardware of the card. For example my old Geforce 2 GTS-V 64mb ran circles around a Geforce MX 128mb. It depends on a lot of things.
