okay heres whats up:

today i went to autozone [gogo payday] and got (i think) the last of the stuff i need for my car before i can get it insured and tags and whatnot. i bought an air filter, gallon of oil, oil filter, spark plugs, sparkplug wires, and a fan belt, the total came to $110.xx give or take.

well when i paid the lady gave me a card, and punched a hole in it, explaiend to me that when i get 5x punches (every time you go in and spend 20 bucks or more you get 1 punch) i get a 20 dollar giftcard for autozone, and i said okay and walked out the door.

then as i was getting in the car i realized "wait a minute, i just spent 100 bucks, wheres my gift card...why didnt i get 5 punches..." and it hit me, they were giving 1 punch per visit. so i walked in and grinned at the girl and told her "ohh ima get you"

then proceeded to say "ima refund all this, and ring it up seperately 20 a piece" and she said thats fine, no argument, so we refunded and rang each up seperately and i got the 20 dollar giftcard.

when i went home i figured something out, when i refunded stuff before they never asked me if i had a card (i spent 200 on an alternator the other day, no one told me about the card but no one asked for it on the refund either)

so i realized something: theres about 10 autozones in my area, if i were to spend 100 bucks at one, go to the next and refund it, buy 100 bucks worth of other stuff, go to the next one and refund it, buy 100 bucks worth of stuff again, and go to the next one and refund, and keep doing that, they would never realize ive refunded so much [i watched there computers, they have a log of what you bought for warrenty but they dont have a list of refunds]

so if you keep doing that, if you can find 5 locations you can EASILY get 100 bucks in giftcards for autozone and never spend a dollar (they give you cash refunds) at the cost of 5-10 dollars in gas

so tomorow, me and my friend kris are going to do this, and try and hit around 300 bucks in giftcards, if this works my car is goign to be running very nicely for free ^^;

just thought everyone who plays with cars woudl like to think abotu this

also, ontop of everything else, its not illegal to refund crap, so even if i get cought, whats the worst that happens? i get kicked out from one of the 10 autozones? ohh noes?

It's not illegal to refund crap like that, but it is illegal to cheat companies. But no one really ever gets proscuted for it.

I thought about this more, and realized that you're essentially stealing from the company. Anything over 200$ (At least in florida) is considered a felony and can be proscucated to the highest degree available.

I'de think long and hard if a few hundered bucks worth of free AutoZone stuff is worth a few years in jail if I were you.

Edit; Although it's a damn good idea.

Might wanna look up your local court system to see about scamming laws. It is possible their is a high price to pay for doing something like this. If anyone in those autozones are wise, they will check out what was bought, where, returned, and if there are cameras you will get screwed.
Another thing is, sometimes, some stores have UPC codes that actually say where a item is from originally. If you try to buy something at one store and return it to another that might send up some red flags so to speak, or even give a trace to what is going on, in the records. These can be used in court, and would completely get rid of the hearsay argument.
I know it's not the same exact thing but their was a scam a a fastfood place where some lady went to jail for saying something was in her food. If that was just the price of the meal she was scamming imagine X amount of dollors in sales.
Not sure if this is possible, or even valid, but, if the autozones are privitly owned, it would be a bit more difficult to track down how many different places you are returning things too.

EDIT: On a side note, wait a few weeks, I bet ya someone will try this scam out and get caught. Then the whole company will discontinue the card thing.
