is it jsut me or is it with all xps
whenever i pop in the bw cd and i start opening bw, it just freezes up until i:
remove the cd
or
close bw's task

well?

Try reinstalling. If not, clean your disks. Anything beyond that is out of my knowledge.

I have a brand new copy of BW which it does to me on occasion as well.

I suspect, however that my CD ROM needs a thorough cleaning.

What I'd recommend is buy a DVD lens cleaner (the $22 one) from Radioshack, use it, and you can return it. The package can be opened without having to damage any of it, so it's still in resellable condition and can be returned.

They actually recommend you do this once a month... I've only done it once in the 3 years I've owned my laptop.

hmm why would i clean it if its new and it doesnt do that to other cds i have
