Some of the Terran hero units are named after things from TV shows/books/movies. Wraith is a guy from Top Gun, Firebat is from a book, Goliath is from some Japanese cartoon.

Zerg units got some stuff from Norse mythology, like the hero lord is named after the Tree of life, Torrasque was some kind of monster... That might be it.
