Mine did that, too. It worked a while after I hit it, then it stopped working altogether.

What you gotta do is get a dry static-free cloth of some kind and clean it out. I actually used a piece of a shirt, and it worked fine. You've got to unscrew the whole thing and take it apart so that you can clean the eye. There's probably a couple specs of dirt on it, so if you rub it gently a little, you should be able to get it to work fine.

I don't remember exactly how to take it apart, except that there was a wire or something that was taped to the side that I had to untape, and that I had to open and close the CD tray at a point in order to get the case off and get to the eye. You'll need a very fine screwdriver. I just used the smallest one on my leatherman.
