hello! when i open Warcraft III and try to sign-on to battle.net it says "unable to validate game version". is there a hack/crack/patch/bug fix that i can apply to fix this?

SOunds like its not downloading the patch. Head over the blizzard.com and download patch 1.05, then try that.
