Simon nodded sheepishly and then clutched the wound to his abdomen. He was hit by an armor piercing round that went through his suit's shields somehow. He winced, trying to hide the injury and started to plug Tek into the computer so he could download the ship's log and information.

"Info successfully downloaded, chief." He said and then stood up painfully, barely stiffling a groan.

Leo looked over at Simon.
"You're armor's been breached." Turning to Kelley, he pushed Simon to the entrance. "Kelley, take Simon to a medic and get his armor patched up. I'll finish up here."

"Roger that."

Kelley grabbed Simon by the arm, helping him down the hall and back to where he Marines were waiting, leaving Leo alone with Kate. Leo continued to finish hacking the ship, planting tracers all about. Kate stood in silence, flipping her pistol about, when her stomach quietly growled.

"Er... sorry."

Leo said nothing, only opening one of his hip pockets and tossing her an MRE.

"But I'll be fine..." Simon complained then coughed some blood out. "Quiet, kid. You'll hurt yourself more." Kelley said to Simon. "I'm your superior officer, damnit!" Simon yelled. "I got orders from your commanding officer, sorry." Kelley said as he dragged Simon to the dropship and he was immediatly shipped off. "He's on his way back now, Major."

"Understood. We're on our way back. Let's haul our asses out of here. Tell the dropship pilot we're going out with a whisper, not a bang. C'mon, let's go."

Leo and Kate left the room, guns up.

"Clear."

"Clear here. Let's move."

Kate and Leo dashed back the way they came. Kelley was already moving the Marines out. Leo signalled to him.

"Once we're finished here, get in the Gears and we can escort the dropship out. Leave this ship with as little damage as possible. We want to be able to track it."

"K'. Oh, Kate? We found your suit. It's damn near trashed, but it looks like no one's taken it apart. It can't keep you out of a vacuum, though, so you're gonna be on the dropship."

"A'ight..."

Kate went with the rest of the Marines, some of them close friends. She seemed happier with them, away from Leo. But Leo didn't dwell on that, not on the battlefield.

"Alright, I'll meet you at the Gears. Simon's on the dropship?"

"Yessir."

Kelley and his squad suited up in their Gears. There was one empty and Kelley called out to Kate. "Ma'am, there's a free Gear here. It's Lt. Codop's." he said and Kate looked at him and nodded. "Thank you, corporal." She suited up into Simon's Flamer and the squad got ready to escort the Orcas (Dropships) back to base.

The Orcas left, under a heavy cloak, escorted by the Gears. Things had gone relatively well, excluding Simon's wound. In a few hours, an extraction ship de-cloaked alongside the Orcas, tractor-beamed them on, docked the Gears, and chronoshifted.

"Mission accomplished."

"Finally I can see some friendly faces, after two long years."

Back on the Desert Sword, Admiral Codop saw his injured son in the infirmary. Divinia was off duty because the child was expected any day now. "You shouldn't push yourself like that, Simon. That wound would have been fatal if Leo hadn't noticed." He scolded. "But pop-I mean sir, I had to complete the mission. And I got what you asked for, right?"

"Even so, do not do anything rash like that again. Dismissed." The Admiral saluted his son and walked back to his office while Simon fell asleep.

Leo went down to the gym and began to ride on the bike, pushing himself. He drifted into the darkest corners of his mind, empty, hollow. Nothing would, and nothing could, disturb his peace. He contnued to pedal furiously, as though he could excise some demon within him just by riding. But really, he was riding to keep his fears at bay. He was afraid, of and for Kate, and himself. But he'd never admit this openly. It would've been bad for morale.

Kate was lost. Not physically so, but in the past. She had lost contact with everyone she had known for two years, and was busy catching up. She was all smiles and laughs the entire night, as though she had not a care in the world. But she did. She surrounded herself with people so that her mind would be kept from the present. As long as she was busy, be it giving the Admiral a classified report, or conversing with rough-and-tough Marines, or even help tending to the stressed using her psychic powers, she wouldn't have time or energy to think about her present situation.

Simon saw Divinia run into the infirmary and she shouted joyfully, happy that her husband made it out alive. "Simon! You're okay! I was so worried!" Divinia laughed, tears visible in her eyes as she embraced Simon quickly. "Hey honey. How's the baby?" he asked. "Any day now, she'll be ready to be born."

Both Leo and Kate left for their rooms, cleaning up, thinking things over. Leo sat awaiting any orders from the Admiral, while Kate surfed the 'net, updating herself with old information that seemed new.

((after one year, I use a Phoenix Down on this rp!))

Admiral Codop was scratching his salt-pepper gray beard. "Major, you have an excellent record, just about perfect. So, I'm appointing you to be the representative for the marine corps. in the galactic Squads tournament. Yes...it's a lame name, I didn't pick it but it is the biggest military gathering in history."

((Gonna need a whole freakin' Phoenix to res this one... PHOENIX SKIN, AWAY!

Also, needs more people.))

Leo saluted the Admiral, who dismissed him. "I'll have further orders for you in a moment. I think there's a young lady that you need to be seeing."

"I hope you're right, sir..." Leo thought to himself, as he walked back to his room.

They say a career soldier, especially one in Covert Operations, should never grow attached to someone. And they say that a career soldier should never fall in love. And they say a career soldier should never, ever start a family. Well, Simon didn't care for what they said, but his wife happened to be a very capable medic. Leo, on the other hand, fell in love with another soldier. He sat on his cold bed, his mind swimming in thoughts; thoughts of joy, of sorrow, of the present and of the past. She was back. For two years he thought she was dead. And yet, she was back. Like an Angel that fell from Heaven to save a damned and doomed warrior. But even if she was back, could the two of them be back together?

Kate closed her eyes, sighing, waiting. She was never one for opening her mind up, especially since she was capable of telekinetic powers; and yet, here she was, a thick cable snaking from a computer into her neck, uploading information to her mind. Two years' worth of information that she had missed out ever since going deep undercover. Two years since she had seen Leo...

"Personnel Records
Name: Ervis, Leo
Rank: O4 Major

...

Disciplinary History: Attacked and killed seven Marines, wounded eight in friendly fire incident during a routine combat operation. Court-martialed; Not guilty on grounds of temporary insanity. Removed from active roster.

...

Notes: Psychologically unstable since death of comrade First Lieutenant Katlyn Whamyr. Deactivated for seven months since her funeral. Keep an eye on this one; he's ex-DREAM.
"

A pang of remorse struck her, llike a knife in the belly; she hadn't known he would've taken it that badly, but the profile was washed away as more information flooded in... details on the incident and every other little thing that had happened in two years, all throughout the known galaxy. She saw the victory celebrations on Earth, witnessed her funeral, and watched the construction of the war memorials. Everything. But still, the man down the hall haunted her thoughts.

Captain Simon Codop had rushed his wife Divinia to the medical bay. Her water had broken and he was ecstatic that he was about to be a father. The doctor on duty rushed her into the nearest ward and they prepared to deliver the child.

Leo and Kate both heard the news, as an elated Simon paged their rooms. Leo got up and went to make sure that Simon didn't keel over and have a seizure; Kate went, curious about the child. Of all the soldiers she knew, she had never expected Simon to (be able to) get married, least of all to Divinia, the head medical officer on the ship. Both walked down the hall at a normal pace, in awkward silence; Kate noted how the people in the hall subtly moved out of their way, giving nervous salutes to Leo, who marched with his head down.

They arrived in Medical to see a jittery Simon, pacing back and forth, gnawing on various fingers and looking at the door to Divinia's room. At the sight of Leo, the soldier in Simon instantly snapped a salute. "At ease... and relax, soldier."

Kate, who somehow managed to retain her sense of humor, grinned at the two, and queried Simon. "So... boy, girl, or Nagalisk?"

Simon instantly feigned to be in denial "It was just that once I swear!" He then chuckled. "Scanner says a girl." He announced proudly and then resumed pacing. One staff worker at the med bay looked at Simon. "Keep pacing like that and your boots will melt into the floor." He said and Simon apologized but paced anyways. "I hope she's alright...it was so sudden." He said, rubbing his temples. "The baby wasn't due for another two weeks." He said, now sounding concerned.
