Dark Swarm

Has to be the dark swarm!! :) no one can mess with that. but it is gay when i am not zerg. just wondering where infest command center is? i love that move, and if it wasnt for that move i could have lost a game. It was a 1v1 a long time ago. i had dropped like 70 lings into his base. almost completely killed him. he survived and got tanks in my base. we were both pretty much crippled. i had 3 queens and a coupl mutas, no hatchery or drones and a hella lot of money. he had a damaged cc and already was rebuilding. so to get him completely pissed i infested his cc, then built the infested terrans. i Won using the same unit, that everyone says never plays a big part in a game, no is never in games.

Dark swarm has to be the bast even if infest command center was in the poll. That abillity is useful only in a handfull of situations.

well i dont typically use magic that often to begin with.

but recon is always important in a game. being able to see that second min base he has that he just started or doesnt have any defenses up for it yet.

or you see a large amount of guys starting to converge to the north. or after you defende against an assault you see that he sent all his guys and now his base is defenseless.


information wins the game. granted dark swarm is devistating.. specially to terrain. but if you didnt know where to send your defiler or you used it against something useless instead of something important cause you didnt know about it yet. you could easily lose the game due to lack of information.

for this reason i say parasite is the best spell. and the great thing about it is most ppl wont even notice their units are infested. specially like drones or even better the neutral animals in the map. specially the flyers. i always parasite all the neutral animals in the game. ppl never check them for parasites. and almost never attack them.

That is a good point. But I think most would say take every possable situation into concideration anyway. Meaning it doesn't matter what you know for sure because you can counter everything. I know that sounds hard but I know people who do it.

It lets u see through the eyes of that unit, kind of like a permanent scanner sweep following the unit :)

Dark Swarm is Great!. It protects zerg ground units from enemy's air attacks, never leave the base without a Defiler! What's even greater is that Defilers can burrow, then pop up whenever you need them!

Never leave the base without a defiler? How many expansions will a terran have before u get those defilers? U have to attack constantly through the game, and make defilers in late game.

Actually I can get a Defiler faster than most people can get a Dropship. And what does expansions matter? If Terran got all expo's that wouldn't mean anything really. Just means that he has more SCVs working then he can handle and that means that his max will be low.

I play on non-money maps, i cant afford defilers in early game because if im playing against terran i will have to get hydras and lurkers which cost a lot of gas. I will have to make an expansion before any other building to get enough gas to pay for lurkers. In late game i will have 5-6 expansions so i can afford to make units, attack, and than make more units constantly. I will need 3-4 expansions just to afford guardians vs terran. Defilers cost gas, and to make dark swarm effective i need ultralisks + zerglings, and ultras cost a lot of gas.

And i never get more SCVs than i can handle. Expansions only have about 15000 minerals, so they run out and then i transfer the SCVs to a new expansions. After an hour me and my opponent will have spent nearly all the minerals on the map.

I will never reach my food limit until late game, because keep attacking and making new units constantly so i lose units. I have at most 60-70 supply of SCVs, and i dont need more then 140 free supply because i dont mass BCs or carriers.

Dark swarm and parasite are the only purpas for defilers.
Actually, queens cast parasite, not defilers. And plague is a very good spell.

I prefer plague over dark swarm. I keep a couple of defilers handy. In case someone manages to hit me w/12+ carriers. They'll all be bunched up. Then 350hp is down to 1 in no time. My hydras do the rest.....

Otherwise. I dont use dark swarm. My tactics dont use queens or defilers. Although, i should change that.

How much energy does Plague cost for a Defiler to case? I know that Consume is there for more energy, but if you don't have Consume, how many Defilers should you have when they all have Plague? Wait, do the Defilers come with Consume?

Plague costs 150 energy. Defilers do not come with consume, but if u are going to use them u should research it.

Dark swarm is better than plague vs carriers.

Armor: Medium
Hit Points: 80
Ground Attack: 0
Air Attack:0
Attack Range: 4
Gas Required: 100
Minerals Required: 25
Abilities: Dark Swarm, Plaque, Consume.

Dark Swarm: Provides Air Cover over the Broodlings and protects them from Air Attacks.

Plaque: Is similar to the Terran's Science Vessels' Irradiate ability, but is best used on enemy zergs.

Consume: The ability to eat any Broodling for energy purposes. Is a good idea to have some zerglings nearby for consumption.

Swarm protects from all ranged units, not only air. Marines, goons, hydras and other ranged units deal 0 damage to units under swarm. Siege tanks only deal splash damage.

Plague isn't similar to irradiate at all. Irradiate targets a unit and kills it (unless it's mechanical or has the hit points of an ultra) It also splashes other units. Plague, however, deals up to 300 damage to enemy units and buildings. It affects a larger area than irradiate, and does more damage. Plague won't kill the enemy unit, it will only drain life until the enemy has a few hit points left.
