Much to the excitement of gamers around the world, Nintendo's entry to the new-generation gaming console world arrived with quite an impact. From Amazon having Wii sold out in 60 seconds [sup]1[/sup], to Nintendo smugly saying they had no problems "getting rid of its first batch" [sup]2[/sup], and one of the top stories was that the sales far outstripped the PS3 [sup]3[/sup].
All three major contenders for the console wars of the next few years have now released their consoles. XBox 360, with a comparative headstart, has sold over 7,000,000 units. Nintendo announced it had sold 667,000 units compared with Sony's 259,000 on initial launch.
Following our discussion regarding whether PS3 has lost the battle before it has begun, Sony could face an uphill battle. With sales lagging Nintendo, the number 3 in the previous war; a steep price with no price cuts in sight, and its exploding battery woes, could this really be true?
Wii looks sleek and has a controller that could well make or break Nintendo's sales. Initial impressions by bamthedoc (who has been doing our countdown), have been optimistic so far. To me, the controller has opened up new possibilities for gamers and developers.
