I found out that this driver, viagart.vxd, has been crashing my computer often because I started up Windows 98SE in Step-by-Step mode and disabled one driver at a time. I found out it started perfectly without viagart.vxd.
I did some research on it. I found out that it was 'necessary' but it started up fine without it. Microsoft told me to remove it but they said that the problem starts with its own Mechwarrior and Flight Simulator game lines (obviously they won't tell me of third-party games). So far I've moved viagart.vxd to my Desktop so Windows will just complain of a missing driver but it starts up, at least.
More research told me that the VIA 4-in-1 driver fix should fix it - but a lot of people say otherwise. So I'm stuck with either to remove it or download a 6MB file across 56k that may fix or break my computer.
Has anyone encountered this problem? What should I do?
I use Windows 98SE.
