I think there should be 2 sides in D3. Good and Bad.
2 storylines, like in Might and Magic VI


Some suggestions for chars:

Possibility to chose between gender/colors:
Beetween races:
good: Human, Elf, Dwarf, Minotaur
bad: Demons, Skeletons, Imps, humans, Ogres, Orcs, Giants, Dragons, Lizards,
Goatmans, Humans, Dark Elfs

Also 2 cults:
a) The church of Zakarum
b) The Cult of Darkness

Many schools of magic, we could find Magic books for each school (with pages with slots) and we could find spell pages, thar could be assembled in the books like the runewords. That would give casters powerfull spells.

ALSO MIXED CLASSES

Each classe has 3 skill trees
With mixed classes you can mix tree skills of each char.

Example:
Barb/Knight/Samurai have: 3+3+3= 9 skill trees, you can chose 3 of those 9,
creating a mixed char class. You could rename then your char class, the default class name for mixed chars would be adventurer.


Chars should have the possibility to riding beasts:
Dragons, Horses, to have wings and fly, etc

Rares items more valuable than uniques.
Gold more valuable

Possibility to change item colors

Some items should be only used by a certain class, sorcerers should not use giant axes or heavy armors, by example

Costumize our char size, weight, hair, etc

Idea for Magic find:
I think one infinite Magic find area, would be nice.
After the game ends, the players could acess to a tower, with infinite levels, each floor mor hard than the previous, but with more MF, you would need to party to manage to climb many floors. No tps alowed on the tower, and if you die, must restart on floor 1.

One arena for duels.

Guilds, with the possibility of building a guild castle and store our items there.
And donate gold and items to other guild members.

More bosses and levels would be nice.

Diablo III should have the same graphic perspective than Diablo II, and no fee. Diablo III should be just like Diablo II with longer acts, better storyline, and new character classes, with even better uber equipment. :grunt

Why does everyone have to try to figure out a counterclass for each class out there?

They could just pull a 2sided thing, like on WoW. Not to mention half of the "evil" classes wouldn't match up to their "good" counterparts.

Thats interesting, but to me it's just not Diablo. Diablo is more centered around single classes with no polar opposites, hence why they had the basics in the first Diablo and then just added different characters to the second. I hope D3 has more variety but not anything that copies what an MMO would do character wise. :)

Honestly, I think theyre going to keep like 7 or 8 classes. They might boost it up to 10, but I doubt it.

Yeah, thats what I was thinking. If they make too many i'd be hard to bnalance everything for a game like Diablo. I also think that the way they do it, with xompletely different classes and no polar opposites and such makes it a lot more fun. :)

About mercenarys in Diablo III...

Instead of mercenarys the male chars would have a quest to rescue a princess, and after they could marry the princess if they wish, and luck should give random powers and beauty or uglyness to the princess.
She could be a ugly archer, or a beautiful sorcerer, or even a witch.
Or an Ogre lady.

The female chars would rescue a prince.

Also a quest who always give a unique item, should be present in game.
But people could do it only 3 times, like the imbue quest.

And some substitutes for uber diablo and cow level.
Perhaps cow level could be replaced by a gladiator arena.

And Uber could be replaced by a council of demons, if 8 players in game, 8 demons in game, all give special charm.

Diablo III storyline (from the side of good)

Blizzard according to rumors as hired a profissional writer, Richard A. Knaak to write Diablo III storyline. This author already made up some storylines for Diablo universe, (for the Blizzard Diablo books), but lets invent a little, why not, something like this:

Belial, and Azmodan, rule hell, with the help of the minor evils.
They have created The High Council of Devils, and have they control of the 6 Guardians of Hell keepers of enormous power.

Diablo and is brothers, after the destruction of the human bodies they possessed, return to the hell pits, and plot the overthrow of the lesser evils, with the help of their allies of the House of the Princes, they have raised many legions of demons, commanded by the Lords of hell, and they also control the 6 beasts of hell.

The Sin Wars continues between those 2 powerfull sides, without no one getting advantage.

Belial, and Azmodan know of the existence on ancient book in Sanctuary, hided by Tal Rasha of the Horadrim´s in a lost temple, the book of the Death, the Necromicon.

This book was created by the "the Unknown", the beast that created the Prime Evils, that beast recorded in the book some very powerfull spells, that allow to control and corrupt all creatures, demons, mans and angels.

In a great battle, before the sin war, the angels of god destroyed "the unknown", and hided the book in santuary. The church of Zakarum, was the 1st keeper of the book, but mephisto managed to control a lot of members of that church trying to obtain the book. But one of the Paladins, Zalayan, stole the book and give it to Tal Rasha of the Horadrim. He hided the book from the Necromancers and Fallen Paladins, in a location that Cain only knows.

This was the book that teached the Horadrim´s the secrets of building the soulstones.

With the knowledge of this book, Belial and Azmodan hope to create precious artifacts, the demonstones that will allow them to capture the souls of the prime evils, and win the sin war.

The necromincon, the book of death also teaches how to open portals,
between heaven, santuary and hell.

And as the secret of making 4 types of magical stones:

Angelstones (allows a angel spirit to be captured)

Demonstones (allows a demon spirit to be captured)

Soulstones (allows human spirit to be captured, they also allow to capture demon or angels spirit but ONLY if they possessed a human body, and the 2 spirits would be always in conflit inside the stone)

Runestones, when the player get the book in Diablo III he can make one runestone of is choice.

The Horadrim have created 3 soulstones in the past to stop the Prime Evils in santuary, because they have possessed human bodys.

And now the Lesser Evils plan is create demonstones to imprison the prime evils for good, and perhaps angelstones to destroy the army of heavens.

In Santuary, the corruption of the worldstone allowed the demons to create portals to enter this world. But only small portals... not enough to invade.

Diablo and his brothers also know the Necromicon, "the unknown" used is powers to control them, and they plan to get it. The prime evils want to obtain the magical book, and use is powers to open portals to invade santuary and transform santuary people in recruits for is army.

The book is the key to defeat the demons, and only Cain knows were the book is located, Cain, the last of the Horadrim... if he dies the location is losted forever. The Necromicon, the book of death, is hided in a lost city, but the book is guarded by 2 powerfull demons. Cain, asks helps of a new bunch of heroes to steal and protect the book.

Diablo manages to get the archbishop Lazarus back to life and send him after the book. He sends with him a demon of extreme power, Ozgandian the Soul eater.

Also Belial, and Azmodan send their agents, the fallen Angels, to get the book.
Tyrael was an agent of the lesser evils, in Diablo II, is objective was to destroy the worldstone, he never destroyed the soulstones, what the hero destroyed in diablo II were fakes. Tyrael still have the stones, and can use them to currupt humans, and change them into demons.

The Heros mission act 1, will be try to stop Lazarus and the fallen angels, but they fail, somehow diablo found a way to summon and control 2 demons that are locked inside the book, Yog-Sothoth and Cthulhu. With a amulet that he got from "the unknown", so now he as the book and the Tyreal soulstones.
Because Tyrael and the fallen angels were defeated in battle and left the precious stones behind.

Diablo now in control of the book and with the soulstones, can enter santuary and he opens one giant portal between to hell.
Enough for is legions to enter. They start to attack Santuary citys.

The heros were saved by the arch-angel, Enoch, who takes them to heaven city. From there the heros must stop Diablo Legions of attacking Santuary, so they must destroy the portal that is opened in Santuary, before to many demons enter santuary, and the citys of the heros are destroyed.

And for that, they must defeat the Lords of hell, the commanders of Diablo legions that are already in Santuary.

After the desctruction of the portal, the heroes return to Heaven city and plan to go to hell and get the book, before Diablo summons more demons and open a new portal.

The army of archangels, have an outpost in hell (the fortress of doom), sorrounded by Legions and Legions of demons. The heros are transported there. And now there mission is to get the book, from Diablo hands.

Meanwhile Belial, and Azmodan manage to steal the book from Diablo (when he battles the heros), and them and their agents go to Santuary to one old temple of the church of the death, (the enemies of the church of the Zakarum), for creating the demonstones. They plan to use those stones to imprision Diablo and is brothers spirits and keep them in prison forever in hell.

Now the heros must obtain this demonstones to stop diablo and is brothers AND Belial and Azmodan.

After getting the demonstones and defeat Belial and Azmodan, and the minor evils, the heros must return to the pits of hell, to defeat the Prime Evils.

The heroes plan is to imprision all demons spirits in demonstones, like they have done with Belial, Azmodan and the minor evils.

They manage to imprision Mephisto and Baal spirits in the demonstones, and they think they destroyed Diablo (lot of godly items fall in the ground), but he escaped somehow, the spirit captured in the demonstone was not is, but is the spirit of someone else that tryed to destroy him, (Cain´s spirit).

No one knows that Diablo escaped and the spirit captured in the demonstone is of Cain the last of the horadrim, the all think the Cain is dead and Diablo captured, but the demon escaped with the book, and will back for DIABLO IV.

Diablo III storyline (from the side of Bad)

You are one agent of Diablo or the lesser evils.
You must obtain the Necromicon and create the demonstones to
imprision the Prime Evils AND the Lesser evils.
And after that you became the ruler of hell. The Prince of Darkness.
After you will use the the book powers to invade Santuary,
and you will use the humans as recruits to your army.
After that you invade heaven city and destroy the army of angels.
With the magic of the angelstones you almost win, but
when you try to imprision god in one angelstone, you fail and are destroyed.

After the destruction of the price of darkness, one agent of the Prime Evils,
that was infiltrated in the Angel legion (Satanel, the fallen angel), steals the Necromicon and and releases the Prime Evils. Diablo and is brothers are free again, and from to the pits of hell they plan revenge, and Diablo IV starts.

Excellent ideas! I like a lot of the character names, as well as the storyline you made up! You know, we do have a sticky for these ideas specifically, however this is your thread and covers something much larger then just quest ideas or whatnot. Very nice read sir, I do love your ideas. Save the one about good/bad classes, balancibng those would be much too hard in my opinion. But, what do I know. :)

There is a rumor that Blizzard as hired Richard A. Knaak, http://www.sff.net/people/knaak/ , the famous fantasy story writer (Dragonlance Series) to write Diablo III story.

Since this is my third novel, I guess I am. If you're talking about a Diablo III, that would depend on what they want to do. I hope to continue the novels AND BLIZZARD SEEMS TO WANT THAT TOO.

This means that perhaps Blizzard and Knaak already talked about the possibility of him writing Diablo III storyline, and because he likes necros, its possible that the necromicon and Zayl the necro will have a big part in the storyline.

About the Necromicon, that inspired my try for a storyline.

The necromicon is mentioned in HP Lovecraft writings, in the 20´s (1927),

In diablo III Casters, could have just one skill tree, and they could carry books with spells, the maximum of 2 books, each book coud support 12 pages with spells of the same scholl of magic, the books would have sockets like the items in d2, and the spell pages will fit in the sockets, they would work like runewords, giving powerfull spells to the books, the more powerfull spell pages would be as valuable as the rarest of the runes in Diablo II Lod.
And some spell pages combinations could give extra powers.

I like those storyline ideas, and I also want more customization of the Diablo III Classes, not too much but a little more would be be neat in my opinion. The spellbook idea reminds me of a mix between Diablo and Diablo II's magical systems, and that would be really cool with me because you could fiocus on one element and get tons of spells for it if you had two books. :)

KEYS in Diablo III

I like the keys ideas in 1.11 patch.

I think in D3, there should be special keys that are droped from monsters.
The should be chests that only are opened with a special key.

The golden key should appear broken in 2 parts, and you must
pay gold to fix it in a forge.

Golden Key -> open special treasure chests, those chest give always a unique
Rune key -> open treasure chests that give always a rune
Skeleton key -> open treasure chests that give always a spell page
Black Key -> open treasure chests that give always a rare item
Jeweled key -> open treasure chests that give always several jewels
Key of bone -> open a tresure chest that gives gems and skulls


ITEMS OF LEGEND

Also, the should appear broken items.
By example the mighty EXCALIBUR sword (legend item), could appear broken in 5 parts (like sets), and you must obtain all parts + special rock of metal alloy to fix the sword in a forge, to complete the sword.


METAL ALLOYS

Also the heros could find rocks of metal alloy and pay a NPC
to make base weapons with those metals (and socketing)

Metal alloys:

Gold -> item made of gold -> mf bonus (phase blade of gold for the mf char)
Silver -> bonus vs undead
Adamantium -> indestructible
Copper -> bonus to lightning powers
Iron -> +% to damage
Ebony -> +% to magic
Mithril -> % ehanced defense
Steel-> % to resist all
etc

Base weapons made with those metals, would have bonus for imbuing,
and for socketing runewords in them.


Casters in diablo III
-------------------

The Spellbook idea, gives a lot of customization.

The caster choose one element/school of magic power, that is permanent.
And they have a skill tree with all the 12 spells for this element/magic power.

And the can carry 2 books (at the same time) of any of the schools of magic/elements. They also can carry other books on stach.

By example:
My choice was: Female Sorcerer Lightning magic tree. God alignment.

The sorc as one skill tree with all 12 lighning spells.

And has some the following books on stach:

1- (no need for book of lightning magic)
2-Book of cold magic: 12 sockets, for 12 spell pages
3-Book of fire magic:
4-Book of the light magic
5-Book of dark magic
6-Book of blood magic
7-Book of rune magic
8-Book of energy magic

The sorcerer can hold 2 books in inventory, giving she the equivalent of 3 skills tree.

Female Sorcerer Lightning magic tree + book of fire magic (with the 12 spell pages) + book of cold magic (with 12 spell pages), would give similar powers to old tri-elemental sorcs in diablo II.

But the if the sorc, change books in stach, now she can have:
Lighning powers + Book of life (healing powers) + Book of summoning
making she a completely different char.

In the lighning tree, there are 12 spells, with 110 points,
she could only max 5, and use 10 points on others.

Also casters should have:
Strenght, Dex, Vitality, Mana and Lore (points here give more power to casting spells from books)

Also a book with some special (symbolic) spell pages combinations, could have special powers just like runewords. Those books would be more valuable than a ZOD in a trade.


INFINITE MAGIC FIND AREAS
----------------------------

After ending the game several times, what counts is to collect items.
So special areas, like towers and mazes, with big magic find, are a good idea.

By example a maze, were you enter with a lot of monsters:
1st level of the maze would have +50% bonus to mf, and level 20 monsters.
2nd level 75% bonus to mf, and lvl 40 monsters.

After ending a lvl you can exit maze or continue.

The game will create infinite levels always with more mf and more powerfull monsters until is impossible to survive.

If you lose, you are back to the begining, and need maze key to enter again.


GUILDS

It's more Diablo-ish then that, wouldn't you say? Blizzard would probably mold it to fit the Diablo World and how things have been with the past two games. Otherwise we'd have a really off and weird Diablo III. :)

I think in D3 should exist a special quest who give one personalized unique item, with random atributes, that item would have the potential to be better than the best runewords/uniques, but you can only complete that quest at level 90 or higher.
