Have you tried any of the Mods for D2? I've started playing Eastern Sun recently, and its a lot of fun.

All new unique and set items, tons of new crafting and runeword recipies, etc...

They take a little work to get going. It's best to copy your D2 directory to a second folder and put the mod there, as you have to replace some files that would make the normal D2 not work right anymore.

Unless you don't play reg d2 anymore...

Eastern Sun:
----------------

Eastern Sun Homepage

Eastern Sun Forums (on Phrozen Keep)

You should be able to find most everything you need from those places, and get help installing and configuring it on the forums.

You will probably want:
-----------------------------

Eastern Sun v2.20 Beta 5 r 2

Eastern Sun Runewords Tool

Onlyer's D2Loader (no CD loader for D2)

BNetGatewayEditor.zip (To add the DVN emulated BNet server)

Helpful Links:

Adding the DVR closed server

You can either copy the Patch_D2.mpq file and the .dll's for D2:LoD 1.09d to a \backup folder you create, or copy the whole D2 folder to a second folder (this is what I did).

I have a C:\Diablo II\ and a C:\Diablo II ES\ folder.

For playing Eastern Sun, I then extracted the mod files into C:\Diablo II ES\, copied in Onlyer's D2Loader (and renamed the modified Diablo II.exe file to D2Loader.exe so it wouldn't overwrite the normal Diablo II.exe)

I then created a shortcut to D2Loader.exe and edited it so it reads (in the properties):

Target:
"C:\Diablo II ES\D2Loader.exe" -w -res800 -title "Eastern Sun 2.2b5r2" -nonotify

Start In:
"C:\Diablo II ES\"

-w runs the game in a window
-res800 runs it always at the 800x600 resolution
-title changes the title of the game window
-nonotify makes it so when the game crashes, it just crashes and closes, instead of popping up that annoying error dialog that can get stuck behind the game window
