I have much contemplated the merits of a Starcraft-oriented chess set. I think it would be quite key, and I would like opinions of the masses.

What units would slide into what roles? You tell me your thoughts. You won't gey any pennies for them, but tell me anyway.

depends. chess is a two palyer game.

so u would need to pick two races. u can't mix units in races,

Zerg:zerglings = pawns. Hydralisk = bishop. lurker = knight. Ultralisk = rook.

protoss: Zealot = pawn. dark or high templar = bishop. Dragoon= knight. Archon = rook.

Terran:Marine=pawn. vulture = bishop. goliath = knight. tank = rook

See, to me Hydras would be great knights. They curve to the same basic shape as a traditional horse. lings and ultras I agree with. Bishop...perhaps a defiler? Bishops are sneaky, so are defilers(?)

Perhaps lurkers should be bishops, and Hydras should be knights...

Are we including air units in this? >_> I can think of things to be king if we're using air..

Carrier - Protoss King
Battlecruiser - Terran King
Guardian - Zerg King ... ?

I think if air is involved, it should be a separate setup. In that case, a protoss setup should be:

king: Carrier
pawn: Interceptor
knight: Scout
bishop: Corsair
rook: Arbiter
queen:?

perhaps in the interest of having a weak unit be the king and a strong unit being the queen, Carrier as queen and Observer as king may be appropriate. Input?

What do you mean, Pan, you can only have units of a race? Any map editor other than the original one allows you to do so.

I say you use SCV/probe/drone as the king and the capital ships as queens but for zerg use a queen.

Can you post a screenshot of the chess map? I don't actually have SC on this computer, so I can't see the map.

I meant this. The pieces of a chess board are to represent your sort of army.

to translate it to SC, zerglings as pawns and then dragoons as bishops dont work

IN HELL! just kidding.
Well heres my thought... even though your two cheap to spare a penny...

There would be 6 piece sets, 2 terran 2 zerg and 2 toss so each player could be whatever he/she (heheh he she) wants.

Terran:
Pawn: Marine
Knight: Vulture
Bishop: Goliath
Castle: Siege Tank
Queen: Sarah Kerrigan
King: Either
A: A marine with the visor up showing the face of Jim raynor
B: A ghost with the face of alexie stukov.

I prefer B cuz stukov kicks ass
:D

Zerg:
Pawn: Zergling
Knight: Hydralisk
Bishop: Defiler
Castle: Ultralisk
Queen: Infested Kerrigan
King: Either
A: A cerebrate
B: The Overmind

I know neither A nor B move, but the king tends not to move much til the near end of the game, and work with me here! >.<

Protoss:
Pawn: Zealot
Knight: Dragoon
Bishop: High Templar
Castle: Either
A: Reaver
B: Archon
Queen: Razsagal ( the dt form )
King: Either
A: A high templar with a dif face to show its tassadar
B: A high templar Psi assaulting to show its tassadar
C: An Archon
D: A Reaver

I suppose there could be a set with air units, but i dont feel like making that up. I also suppose pawns coulsd be the worker units, but i prefer the basic attackers.

Now I'm Gonna Go Get :wasted

Why not, instead of both players playing on the same chess set, have 1 setup for each player. That way, every player can be terr (good for them) and the "opponent" from each persons eyes will be zerg. You can fool with the colors of the playrs to make them white/black as necessary. You could do this by having every move that a player does, the zerg copies on the corresponding chess set. That way, everyone sees everything the same and none of that backwards chess crap that no one can play. I mean, I cant play chess from top looking down, that just screws with my mind.
