And the Sun shall not rise,
Its course forever severed,
Like the life of the Mother has ended.

And her children cry out in vain,
Their strangled voices,
Awaiting their bane in painful grace.

And the bold rise to meet their doom,
Open up! Accept your fate! The voices
Chill the air and no warmth to be found.

The Gates of the End open up,
Unfolding to meet those
Reluctant but Doom-bound.

The calamity awaits

Here is my commentary, as originally posted in deviantArt:

I wrote this after reading Lord of the Rings: Return of the King (for the 5th time) and watching the movie (being a latecommer, 3 months after release). But this time it struck me differently, having recently done a study on doomsday in different religions and cultures. I was amazed at the consistency of records on this topic. It achieved an especial cohesiveness among the 3 ancient "book" faiths: Islam, Christanity and Judaism. Also, in many mythologies the Sun is seen as a lifegiver and the loss of it, even the darkening of the sky by clouds or a dark night, is regarded as ill omen. Hope unilluminated oft leads to despair...
