Check it, though at first glance it looks like a Carrier it really doesn't have the properties of one. Its too open, it looks like a docking bay or something. And are those guns at the front of the ship?

Discuss.

Afterburners? Some sort of engine surely, but that would make sense. The Stargate is one huge floating target that cannot be missed. (I mean, it should be big enough for a Carrier to fly through with room to spare.)

If things go south, some built in facility for tactical movement would go a long way to ensure survivability. (One suspects that it would flee while other Protoss units held enemy. Something like Terran buildings that can supposedly take off...)

Who knows, maybe the engines are warp engines. The Stargate has to get to its deployment point somehow. And it'd be wasteful to leave functional Stargates at bases that are to abandoned. (Although I like the idea of Stargates piggy-backing on Carriers...)

Those don't seem like engines to me, they just look like the reflex of the star...

And it's obviously a StarGate, I think.

Easily a Stargate. Gosh Cappy, you newb! :)

Certainly looks 900 times better than the original look of the stargate. Well done Blizzard!

A lot of the vechicles on SCG are pretty huge. Nothing compaired to the very badly out of proportion SC game.

Hehe, that was my first thought, too.

I agree with the Stargate theory. If it has engines, well... the original Stargate floated too. Artists probably wanted to give the hovering Stargate a more realistic touch by providing a means for its floatation. After all... with the technology of the Protoss in consideration, a floating building probably isn't supposed to stay in one place.
