Diablo's Soulstone

The text from the original Diablo's manual / storyline says that Lazarus smashed the stone. Obviously there are some story continuity problems between D1 and D2.

Lazarus only shattered the soulstone. The hero that had been possesed only plunged a shard of Diablo's soulstone into his head. Diablo only had a shard of the soulstone with him. That's why you destroy it at the hell forge, because it can only be destroyed properly there.

well thay could do It in modern times, that would be different.

Like a Arciologist find's baal's soul shard and then later possess him. Then he is trying to use modern technology and the Ancient arts to ressurect his brothers into a world that has forgotten them.

Diablo and Mephistos soulstones are obliterated by the Hellforge Hammer. Baal's stone is never touched. There is no proof that it is ever smashed; therefore, making the sequel a definite possiblity to finish the story. The Diablo franchise is going downhill rapidly so if they make Diablo III then it will balance everything out for the time being. After patch 1.11 for Diablo II over 30,000 players quit because of the economic disaster of the Hellfire charm.
