XboX LIVE Halo 2 Game Type Descriptions/Newbie Guide




There are 7 different online game types you can choose to play in Halo 2's xbox live multiplayer mode. They are:

  • Slayer
  • King of the Hill (Abrv. KOH)
  • Oddball
  • Juggernaut
  • Capture the Flag (Abrv. CTF)
  • Assault
  • Territories


Game Type Descriptions


Slayer

------------------------

Slayer is basically what the name implies: A deathmatch. The objective is very simple: To kill as many people as possible. For every person you kill, you will be given points. The person with the most points wins. This game can have up to 16 people at a time, and has many variations such as Team Slayer, where you can have teams of 2vs2, 4vs4, or even 8 teams of 2.

Slayer Rules


------------------------

Slayer: The basic Slayer match, 25 points needed to win. Its everyman for himself
Team Slayer: Teams fight each other in a deathmatch. 50 points to win.
Swords: Swords are the only available weapons, everyone has Overshields. 25 points to win.
Snipers: Sniper Rifles/Beam Rifles (Covenant Counterpart to the Sniper Rifle) are the only available weapons. No Motion Sensors. 15 points to win.
Rockets: Rocket Launchers are the only Weapons. No motion sensors. 25 points to win.
Phantoms: All players are comouflaged. 15 points to win.
Team Phantoms: Same as Phantoms, only with teams.
Elimination: Last man standing wins.
Phantom Elimination: You have one life and everyone is invisible Last player standing wins the round for his team. First to win three rounds wins.

King of the Hill (KOH)

KOH is basically what the name implies: You are to capture and maintain control over the "hill" of the map. Its a rather fast paced game type as many people will be trying to steal it away from you. If you stay on the hill, with it under your control, for a certain ammount of time, you win.

King: Take over the Hill and control it for a certain ammount of time
Team King: Different teams fight to control the hill. The team must have it for one minute.
Phantom King: Everyone is using camouflage. The Hill must be held for one minute.
Crazy King: The Hill's location changes periodically.
Rockets: Rocket Launchers are the only Weapons. No motion sensors. 25 points to win.
Team Crazy King: The team version of Crazy King, it is the same thing as Team King, but with the Hill moving periodically.

Oddball

Oddball is, well, odd. You are supposed to find the "oddball" and hold it for a certain ammount of time, although the Ball is actually a skull. You can find it by using the waypoint marker. Hold X to pick it up. You will not be able to use weapons while holding it, but you will be able to beat your opponants sensless with the "ball."

Oddball: Classic oddball. Hold the ball for two minutes (total) to win.
Rocketball: Rocket launchers are the only available weapons. Hold the ball for one minute to win.
Swordball: What the name implies. Swords only, hold the ball for 40 seconds to win a round. three rounds to win. There are no motion sensors.
Team Ball: The team version of oddball, everyone has to hold the ball for thirty seconds for the team to win.
Fiesta: You are spawned with random weapons. Hold the ball for two minutes to win.
