i haven't played in some time but i seem to recall blizz made it so all you gotta do is copy files from the cds and then you don't need to use the cds anymore.

As of 1.13, you dont need a CD. Anything before that is basically using D2Loader and copying 3 MPQs from the CD to the D2 Directory.
Hey brandation, here's what I'm doing right now:
If you login to your battle.net account you can manage your game clients. As long as you have your CD-Keys you can download the games directly from the battle.net website! I'm stoked because i lost my LOD CD and haven't been able to play for a few weeks but I just found this method. I am downloading D2 right now. Hope you haven't gone through too much trouble yet,
