Okay, this is probly a n00b question, but I've lost my CD Key for Counter Strike and I was wondering if I could just use a keygen'd cd key or does CS require each user to have a unique key?

Ok well what if I came up with a serial that's used in other people's installations, will it work online or not?

Are you playing 1.5 or 1.6? If you're using 1.6 then you just need the email address you registered under.

1.5 is older than 1.6. 1.6 is better and uses Steam.

And yeah, you need a CD key to play online no matter what version of CS you're playing. You can have an account registered with Steam, but you'd still need to get your own CD key. CS is cheap now that CZ is out, just go buy a copy.

Yea you do, but when using 1.6, you sort of 'bind' the CD key to the email address, so if you registered a steam Email address, then you don't need the CD Key when you reinstall (or whatever)

True. Steam basically does away with the need for CD keys altogether.
