Because tweak this ISNT a forum oriented for adults. im sure the a lot of kids have seen fuck but im also sure not all have, and just because you've seen a picture of a tit doesnt mean its ok to plaster it all around. Same with cursing. I dont mind having it uncensored in certain forums but we dont need to go around branding the forums with the "f" word. I dont think its right on a GAMING forum for younger kids. Jesus fucking christ this wasnt designed for people 16 and old it was designed for people 13 maybe 14 years old.... It just isnt right to have all that shit around the forums it defeats the purpose of a gaming forum and targeting 13 year olds to post here.

We have a swearing filter and we dont allow nudity or porn. Those rules have nothing to do with cencorship. They are the basic rules for *polite behavior* in any society and I dont think we should change them and make them more or less strict.
BF users can express themselves openly in the Asylum. Those who are offended are free to stay away from it - the same goes for the mods.

@Nameless: if we allowed porn and all those things that we all see everywhere else in the Internet, pretty soon BF wouldnt be a gaming forum:D

I just dont think that for a forum thats mostly 12 and 13 and 14 year olds we should plaster the forum with words that their parents wouldnt want them to see... thats what the asylum is there for, for other members to express their vulgality and do what they want (short of porn).

ok, first off, tell me a single goddamn thing a parents gonna do if they see the oh no F word on a ****ing forum. they know the internet's full of that crap anyway. if they were that worried they wouldnt give their children access to the internet.

porn is another story, but porn=nude, not revealing as hell or edited.

and i think youve got the ages wrong akule. unless you can name a single 13-14 year old who doesnt well know fuck, then i wont agree with all your points. 9-10-11 year olds may be a problem though. but like i said earlier, they shouldnt even be on the goddamn internet if they cant handle "fuck"

and trust me, if people dont abuse it, having it uncensored shouldnt change a whole lot in the forums, but would just give members more freedom.

but that wasnt what i was aiming for when i made this thread at all, oh no.

i want these two things to change back:
being able to edit porn by putting whatever neccesary to cover up the "inappropriate" parts of the body, and to be able to have a signature that proudly says "FUCK" in it.

I see im fighting a losing battle, and skuzzy has nothing to do with it. He wasnt a god, or even an exceptionally good person. You act like mentioning his name will make me say "oh ok your right if skuzzy thinks so then its true"

U've all seen my opinion i can only hope you make the right decision.

but can you say skuzzy did an exceptional job governing the forum?

i think he was loose enough and gave members a lot of freedom, but at the same time had enough rules to keep the forum from going mad. sure he isnt the jesus of forum governing, but he did a damned good job.

SkuZZy has gone, and BF has grown. As Tolkien said in Gimli, 'his arm has grown long [Saruman]'. BF has grown beyond the first 5,000 members or so. It is a large gaming forum and has a large community, and has a decent Google rating. Stuff like that has to change with it.

abusing "bad" language can still be controlled, we may have more members, but really, how many more ACTIVE members do we have?

how many more MODERATORS do we have since skuzzy has left?

i still think that despite its grown size, we can still control things like having fuck in sigs, and close-to-nude pictures.

You also have to consider those, like me, that can't stand profanities. I am 21, and I've yet to use one. I don't even like reading or hearing them, and my friends have even learned to deal with that. I don't force them too, of course, but they know that it "hurts" my ears. Seeing those words, even in "internet slang" hurts my eyes.

Why can't you people think of that, sometimes? Why should we go back to the way things were when it's obvious that that's impossible. I'd be willing to be that even the "great" Skuzzy would change, or evolve, the rules as Battle Forums has. You cannot ignore change.

BATTLE FORUMS HAS CHANGED!! For anyone who thinks otherwise, GROW UP!! The Asylum was created because BF has evolved, and administrators saw this. Without order and/or law, there is chaos and/or anarchy. We can't just allow everyone or someone to run amuck because then someone will always take it too far.

*looks up at an example or two in people's post on both sides of the issue*

No, we dont have to consider you, BAM. If you cant stand profanities then it is your problem, not ours. Swearing filters are for the minors and you are an adult now, remember? And one of the first things adults should learn it that we must try to adapt to our environment instead of trying in vain to adapt our environment to our wishes...

I'm not saying we take things out completely, and I know what the word filters are designed for. They aren't just there for kids, FYI. They were designed to allow for intelligent discussion and, also -- even mostly, for preventing minors from seeing what parents don't want them to see.

I adapt well enough, and "hurt" is just a word I like to use :p Seeing those words doesn't actually cause physical, mental, or any other type of pain, but I do hate seeing it. I also don't believe it belongs where intelligent discussion occurs, but that's from various reasons ;)

The swearing filter is there for the kids and for the sake of *polite behavior*. IMO, we dont need anything more.

As for intelligent discussion: It is defined by the arguments and not by the number of everyday words like **** or a$$ or $hit that are used. I have witnessed thousands of intelligent discussions full of the words you hate, BAM and I also want to remind you that countless works of art (movies, books, etc.) are full of what you call *profanities*.

Meh, knowing how to avoid profanities, though, shows me a bit more than using it, excessively at least.

You have a point. We really have no right in trying to stop people from swearing. The language filter is necessary however, to protect minors from their parents.

All that we can do Bam, is to tell people why they shouldn't swear. Believe me, there are reasons. Here they are:

1. They degrade your character, and overall make intelligent people think less of you.
2. They show that you do not have a very wide vocabulary, especially since you have to resort to using profane words to communicate.
3. Often people that swear are not taken seriously.

And Punk, parents DO care. I don't know where you came from, but there are a LOT of parents who might take the computer away from the kid JUST for seeing profane words on the site they are viewing. We have to protect kids who have parents like that from being banned from their computer. Battleforums should be a safe place; not some place that you can't go to because your parents are around.

if they CARED that much, they wouldnt give their kids the internet. i stated that earlier. sure they might tell their kids "dont go to inappropriate sites", but you have to expect normal online users to cuss every so often.

who cares?

no really, who cares?

does this mean you have to censore all the members?

The internet can be used for good. There are many resources on the web that you can't find anywhere else. A lot of parents do care about their kids going to bad sites. And there are bad sites and good sites.

The reasons I posted earlier still stand. Many people actually are offended by blatent swearing. Bam is just one example. The asylum is a good place to remove the swearing filters. The rest of the forums are GAMING forums. There is no need to swear anywhere else other than the asylum.
