Recently, Vivendi Games has purchased one of the largest and respected companies in gaming history, Activision. Everyone’s heard of this company, it's been around for ages, and created some of the greatest games available, from the beloved Nintendo Entertainment system to current Xbox360, PS2, Wii, and PC titles including Guitar Hero, Call of Duty, Tony Hawk, and more. Everyone’s played their games, and there’s favorites scattered throughout the ages. What does this mean? When combining Blizzard, the maker of the number one selling PC game -ever-, World of Warcraft, along with top listed, hit games such as Diablo II, Starcraft, Warcraft III, and the yet to be released StarCraft II, with someone with the respected status such as Activision, it's guaranteed to be ground shattering. Spending nearly 19 Billion dollars in order to obtain 52% stake in Activision, and thus becoming the majority owner of the company, they are keeping the same name, but adding a suffix to it, the new, bigger, more powerful company will be known as Activision Blizzard from this point forward.

Is this a good thing? Ya' darn tootin' it is. Some of the greatest games of all time have been created by both Blizzard and Activision, they contain some of the largest member base with their games, and now they have access to each other’s resources. Instead of competing with one another, they will be synergistic, instead of fighting for dominance; they will share the top rank. We can expect to see combinations of brain power between Blizzard and Activision, and possibly some development teams joining forces for future titles, and that should be enough to make any fan, Blizzard or Activision, drool and foam from the mouth.

Why should you, a Blizzard fan care? Because you love games, games like Guitar hero, you love games like World of Warcraft, and Call of Duty 4, and StarCraft 2, the list goes on with what each company has created in the past, causing huge uproars and generating giant numbers of fans for each franchise, and it's impossible to imagine exactly what will be created with these teams together. With both blizzard and Activision both owned by Vivendi, it's impossible to think they will not team up. You can bet your last two cents that we will see team-ups in the future now. Imagine, the action of Call of Duty, the content of Wow, the addiction of Guitar Hero, it all has a chance to mesh together into one lump of "as addicting as crack" gameplay in a future release. Imagine what CoD4 would have been like with the cinematic ability of Blizzard for instance, and every fan boy out there would not be able to stand up for about 10 minutes.

In the future (near, I hope) you can expect to see some very creative people coming together for the first times, some of the industry’s best, and working on new titles, bouncing ideas off of one another, working as a team, and creating some killer games. Considering we are going to see the combined efforts of Blizzard and Activision together, it’s very possible that they could create something that could surpass World of Warcraft, which will be a feat worth being there for.

What does this mean? Only time will tell what amazing things will unfold with this combination of power, and I'm sure everyone will love it.
