Can someone please tell me the most effective human Starting strategy when playing 1vs1? I can play 4vs4 with success, but I lack strategy in 1vs1 please help!

There are many strategies for 1vs1...And there is no such thing as the best strategy...because they all can be countered....In the start make a barrack and an alter....then make a farm put the rest on gold....que up peasants...send them to gold and then lumber....Make footies and hero and go creeping or harrassing....
There are many other different build orders... look in the other thread(4got its name but its is in this forum)!!

Always get around 5 footmen before switching over to riflemen, otherwise your riflemen wont have a meatshield to protect them.

So you’ve decided you want to be the next Insomnia and win WCG 2004. That’s a lofty goal. Can I help you do it? Not really… but I can put you on the right track. So… there are several parts. Three steps, if you will. The first is to read the general guidelines. Get into the practice of obeying those, and you will be ready to move on to step 2. Step 2 will be fundamentals of strategy in Warcraft III. Step 3 is what most people want when they want strategy, and that’s a race matchup specific strat guide, the least useful of the three.

Lesson 1

The first step involves a 10 point plan to better gaming. Learn them… and then you can learn to play. As of the first draft of this, these are in no particular order, but make sure you get them all down.

1. Decide your goals. If you don’t know what you want, it’s impossible to get better. If your goal is anything other than getting better for the purposes of being considered a “gosu” or “l33t” player, then stop reading. I can’t make you a 4v4 god, and following this isn’t going to be overly useful for just “having fun.” However, if your goal is to improve your play for solo and maybe team, read on.

2. Play Solo Games Only. For every 3v3 you play, you need 1 more solo to make up for the skill you lose. For every 4v4 you play, you need 3. For every custom, you need 10. There’s no such thing as “playing a custom to improve micro.” That only teaches you the wrong kind of micro. Sure, you’ll get better at playing micro wars… but you won’t get better at laddering. So… you have to play solo games if you want to get better.

3. Don’t Worry about Losing. Most people stall or don’t play their solo games because they are worried about losing. Get over that. Your win percent doesn’t matter. You have to dive into the game, no hesitation. So, just feel free to get in and get your hands dirty.

4. Stay with one account. Sure, some people like to clan hop, and that’s fine. That’s a personal plan. However, don’t make a new account every time you want to… change races, or try a new strat. Just do it on the same account. Switching accounts means you learn to play against levels 1-7. You don’t get better that way. You need to play against the best opponents you can to get to the top.

5. Get Familiar with Elites. Although this sounds silly, by developing an interest in the “pro” community, you start developing a bigger desire to be part of it. Surf the ladders, check the accounts of the top players and look at their clan home pages. See who’s on top, and who they are playing against. Once you get familiar with this, you are ready to start working your way into it.

6. Replays are Important. Although this sounds kind of weird, and is a dangerous path to walk. The replays are important. You should get in the habit of saving every game you play. I use a naming convention of date.race vs name.race. (32704.ud vs Hokage.or) as an example. That way I have quick reference so that down the road, I notice a particular strat is prevalent, I can easily look for games I’ve played. For games between other players, I just stick them into appropriate directories ([ne vs orc], [mass tower strats], [dh rushes]). Whatever I feel the strat belongs in. I may rename it something to find it easier, but the indexing helps.

7. Don’t go crazy with Step 6. For every game you watch, you should play one more. While replays are good tools, you learn most through playing and repetition. Think of it as being you can watch football players and understand them, but that doesn’t mean you can jump out there and be a pro just because you’ve played madden 2004 for 150 hours.

8. Look for good players. This is the one I get in trouble with the clan for, but it’s important if you are interested in getting better. Hang out with the clans of good players, and you can pick up AT games, or custom solo games with them… or obs games between them. Clan Wizz and Clan NaoC are good places to start, but meet the good players and hang out with them a lot. The more you associate with top players, the more you get the mindset needed to be one.

9. Be diligent. Play a game a day even if you have to squeeze it in somewhere. You have to dream about war3 if that’s what’s necessary. Don’t “take breaks” from your learning. Don’t decide that Fridays are your day off and you can play whatever you want. You have to stick to it, regardless of how you are feeling about the game, or yourself. Some days will be better than others, but overall you will be improving.

10. Learn from your mistakes.If you don’t listen to the rest of these, at least listen to this one. If you lose a game, figure out why. Don’t just say, “he’s just really good. That’s why.” Figure it out. If you don’t know, ask somebody else. Ask the people who beat you. Find out what they think you should be doing. Then… DO IT. At least try it. If you have a new strat, certainly give it its due…. But if it’s not working, it’s not working. You need to try something else. Remember, practice makes perfect, and playing more will only improve your game.




4 footies + AM + we is godly for a rush as most people tech (im talking to ya mr. hunt masser) so you can totally catch them unprepared (dont forget to use your militia scout)

Im proud that im from clan xCKx... look all this is true, the one who wrote this is indeed clever for his advices and i respect these tips.AGREED

And i would like to tell you about something, i hope you give a s*** , you know me and thats why.

Im also proud that we have a top Human player like Insomnia, im Bulgarian and this is a single country from the many European, it's not like 'oh the state doesnt matter we already have a USA champ'. Many play human and you'll see the opposite of what you see in Azeroth- Humans RT players only, more losses..noobs. They play ONLY solo or AT or FFA make crazy stats with hum as 130:20 they are lvl 15 for below 100 wins, and the most important - i already have somebody to train me on very specific tricks, some which you havent noticed so far, neither have I.

another strat you may want to be familiar with is to use the militia you make to scout, is to send him and make a tower near his base (not too far but not too near) and when you are retreating from you early rush, you may use it as a choke point, and if it still stands you may "tower hop" all the way to their base.

Heeh , Insomnia they say is lossing skills, he doesnt play as crazy as as Fear- when Fear refused to play me he had 1698 wins, now he has 1794 - for 2 weeks .

And 4k.Myth makes some things better than Insomnia, probably because he's serious some of Insomnia's losses are because he's lazy or they say- when it is matching they dont play because this is just another solo game but when it is vs another top player -this is the time when he shows his best
