Maybe it's the filename that's too big, not the file itself.

you can make a map very big and play it single player, but there is a map limit of 4mb on the b-net, i have a program that can reduce the map size a lot if u want?

Wouldn't a program like that hamper with the quality of the map in any shape or form. I think the problem would mostly lie in the fact you put music into the map.

Reasons for large file sizes:

Abuse of 'doodads' such as using a program to eliminate limit.
Music, sounds, etc..
Custom models / skins.
Overlapping regions, which interfere with one another.
Imported images.
Triggers which challenge one another. i.e. a unit enters region(1) -move unit up => (region(2) on top of region(1)). unit enters region(2) move unit down.
ANYTHING IMPORTED CHECK FILE SIZE!

Whalecum back Speaker .

I think it could obviously be imports, thinks like music aren't ok. Custom icons are fine. They only take up like 8 KB each.
