making an item have an attack?

hmmm, i've been trying to make a game (kinda like battleships or tank commanders) i have the map and things.. but i need to know how to make a item have an attack. Say in battleships, when i purchase an item e.g. basic cannon. When enemies are within the range my cannon would fire automatically. so ya i need help on how to make a item have an attack. Does it require trigger(s) thanx in advance

ok this is actully pretty simple all you do is give the item a modified phonix fire on the item and turn the duration to .01 and ther you go you have an auto attacking item

ummm i still can't get it to work... when i give the item the ability. it just gives the old normal ability. i am using a claws of attack, and replaced it with the pheniox fire abillity however.. when i tried it in game. it ends up giving my hero +15 damage please help

take the shop ability "buy townhall" (find it in the map editor) and turn the building into a Cannon tower or something, instead of a townhall, and make te unit interace/icon/whatevr into the desired item you want. in other words, just put in your customized unit in for townhall.
get it?
post later if this does/doesnot help.
i have other solutions

ok here ill put up my test map for the items attacking that should clear things up about what you need to do, i based all my stuff off of the Shadow orb +10

you should turn it into a mimic item box! either have it turn into a monster or "eat" the hero and have a little digestion counter that has like 2 minutes till it goes off and kills the hero, unless someone kills it...

It's really basic dude, just make an item with the ability phoenix fire, and change the phoenix fire image to whatever attack thing you want, change the speed to whatever u need, and set the damage accordingly, add splash etc as needed. And poof auto attacking items.

Base ur items off of something that has a buff ability attached to it, and remove the buff.

Just a quick note about something tassader said if you remove the buff it will still say phoinx fire for the duration it is set too set the duration of the buff to .01 to fix that

oo i have a another problem now... i want to make the attack not home but have splash attack, is that possible with the pheniox fire ability? note: i know how to make missiles no home but not home + splash is what i have difficulty getting. thanx

turn off Art-missle homing on your ability thats how you turn that off as for splash good luck i dont know how

For splash you could make a trigger that does the splash... but I think there's a setting somewhere that allows splash.

Yeah i have been dinking around with the splash so far i know that Burning oil and item fire attack bonus dont work but i really wouldnt know how to get splash with an item

Maybe when the attack fires, find the unit that it hit, make a region 50x50 and deal X damage, then make another region 100x100 and deal X damage again (deals 2X damage in a 50x50 radius and X damage in a 100x100 radius)

yeah i tried something like that exept i did a pick every unit and do dmg which worked but it A)could kill you and B)didt always work and C)only one dmg no matter what item attacked
