using "spirit walk" on a normal unit

Does anyone know how to give abilities as a unit levels, but the abilities come from a spellbook? So like the unit starts with a spellbook-turned-hero-ability with no spells, but as he levels he gets spells. I want to use this in an rpg..

You would either need to apply triggers that force learn abilities, or apply upgrades that cause the unit to learn new ones. Or apply every possible ability to the unit and modify the learning levels. If you do the last one, you may have a stockpiled command card.
