| | | Skinning War3 Based on what someone said, I am considering getting into playing war3. BUT only if someone can find a way for me to skin the game so I can bare to look at it.
Not much, changing graphics. Make them appealing... That sort of thing. Preferably to dump the cartoon-ey look.
Naturally, this would in no way impact balance or be anything but client side, that's good.
Have at it!

To stand looking at it I need to skin it.

| You have to skin every unit of every map. Not practical. And you can't change anything on bnet (well you can.. but not skins in ladder games), so you will have to smash people with HAWT ELVES.
And using a client-side program what will change models is going to get you banned by the Warden, im sure.

| It's impossible for melee standards. Just get used to the cartoony graphics.

| | | Warden can't really detect client-side things. It's also a poorly designed bit of Blizz-crap.
Chris, there's the thing. The graphics are repulsively cartoonish. I watch the occassional cartoons, but for ****'s sake Blizzard. I'm NOT TEN ANYMORE. So stop treating me like I am!

And the Warden detects by checking your session for any third party intrusions into your code. If it detects one, it will report you for it. |

| In other words the only way you will prove how bullshit your argument is, was by asking someone to do a near impossible task just because you're to stubborn to be proven wrong. |

| I am an adult and I dont have any problems with NE nor the other races.
No offense man, but you are sounding like a complete egotistical pussy backing down from Pan's challenge over a bullshit excuse like this. You say you are the only "true gamer" left, but a true gamer would enjoy whatever game in front of him non-stop, regardless of how many times he or she has played it. Not be egotistical and bashful over other games that others would call "fun". I for one admit there are games with not so good graphics, but for me: It is a minor detail. I prefer Gameplay and Replayability.
For instance: Aidyn Chronicles and Quest 64 both had terrible graphics to some degree, but I still played them anyways, from start to finish with 0 complaining, except at points where I got stuck.
Most Strategy games have to sacrifice something for something. If we had things your way, this game would have the same requirements of a 2006/07 game. And this isn't the easy to animate and create 2D sprites of the past, these are 3D models and skins we are playing with. And I would also like to see proof from 5 different units to back up that claim.
And NE aren't pink skinned. In WoW, they range from pink to lightish purple white. There is not one pink skinned NE in Wc3, including NE creep models.
If I was you, I would suck it up and challenge Pan to show him who's boss.

| Exactly...I have found that graphics are only used to draw people into playing the game at the start...After that, wtf? Are you going to play the game just to stare at the graphics? No, the game has to be fun and challenging...
Who gives a **** if they look cartooney? Its an awesome game...

| Well, look at Disgaea 1 and 2. We are dealing with sprites of characters and only thebattle field is 3D. But what's so good about it? The fact you can go to Level 9999 and there are multiple endings that require many playthroughs.
Hence, it's a Gameplay/Replayability game. |

| Re: Skinning War3 yes you can skin the interface but only in a custom map. the tools you need are at hiveworkshop.com. but this is only for custom games not melee, you would have to do something with the game code and you cant so you will have to live with it. |

| Re: Skinning War3 You need to use 3D studio Max to render the models. Then use scripting to do animations. Then create skins and save them as BLP or TGA (make sure Alpha Channels are nuked). But the sacrifice is, for each model you replace, you have to increase the size of your file. And it if goes beyond a certian amount, it will be either too slow to DL or it will NOT be playable online.
I think I will check out Hiveworkshop for tools sometime. I am starting to learn how to use 3DStudioMax from a friend of mine who is in the animation path in Game Design (I am on the programming side of it).
But you shouldn't really be helping out Laharl, blazing. I know you are being helpful which is a good thing to offer to this forum, in my opinion. But you see, it's Laharl himself that is the problem in this thread. This guy has problems with "loser" games and graphical issues. He feels egotistical that he is the last true gamer but he can't stand graphics like some visual nazi. He doesn't get the picture why Wc3 is a decent game with much replay value. Hell, he quit the forums because of his ego (he thought mostly everyone around him was stupid and the forums were "dead"). |
