We've all had it done to us before. Trying to get a trade, we get cussed out by some flaming noob who then leaves and types "/dnd hahaha noob you suck omfg go away lmao omg noob omg haha lmao wow im so gay haha you suck noob"

First must be aware that a person that thinks that 30 mara is worth 30 ists is in no hurry to trade for 3 ists. if they are unwilling to trade an item away because they have grown attached to it, don't even bother trying unless you are willing to offer 2x the price


the art of trading requires some practice in sociology:
there are 3 different methods of compliance
foot-in-the-door
lowball
door-in-the-face

the first method, foot-in-the-door, involves asking for something out of the question. then lower your request by offering some better items for something cheaper

the second method of complianace is called lowballing. lowball requires first trading something cheap with someone. (this can even be, when some pro is looking for something crappy (amn rune, thul rune, etc.) you give them free) after the first trade, people naturally have a tendency of feeling like they have an obligation to trade with you. make sure they get the benefit of the doubt. Then offer something for a price that is somewhat higher than the normal price.

the last method in compliance is called door-in-the-face method. This method requires selling something cheap for a very expensive price. They will either accept or decline but either way it pisses them off. then offer an expensive item for its normal price that they need or want. they will be more than willing to trade with you because they unconciously developed a schema for you that tells them that you are an expensive seller. also if they do not know the price of an item, then offer it at high price, then lower it and they will think that they are getting a good deal.

a technique that is used often is offering an item for cheap, then leaving. the person will msg you and say you want a little more and they will beg you to come back

i rarely lose a trade. always be in control and make them want you around and not the other way around.

I've known the tactics, but I've never classified them in such away.
Honestly though, people believe their items are far higher than what they really are.
Most time people will NEVER trade their items unless offered an absolutly absurd trade.

d2 teaches you stuff like in history, my teacher asked what weapon he was holding. it was a scmitar and then he had a javalin. i felt smart cause everyone in my class was a dumbass and said OMG THATS A SWORD AND THATS A BIG ARROW!!!. D2 also teaches you about gemstones. before i didnt know wtf a topaz was.
now i know ^^. also trading has helped me learn patience for people irl. for instance i gave a dollar to my friend for a gameboy when i was in the 4th grade. i lowballed him ya but it was worth it for a cheap gameboy.

Although I wouldn't advise that tactic unless it's someone that you know who has a joy for games as you do, Diablo II is actually useful in real world experiences. Since I started playing it, and aside from where I work. I have noticed that alot of everyday experiences come from alot of video games, not just Diablo II. So the next time someone tells you that you play way too many video games, just look at them and go "I might play alot of video games, but atleast I'm not living out my parents basement to do it."

lol I learned these techniques in my freshman psych class...They are usually used for like door-to-door salesmen or telemarketers...but ya heh I guess they could apply to D2.
