Umm... no way. There's a lot more to playing Hardcore than simply being able to swiftly exit the game. Everyone knows that you have to slightly alter your build when creating a Hardcore character. An obvious example is needing to put more points in Vitality. Now your character is lacking somewhere else, usually mana. It changes the whole game. You also play a lot more cautiously.

There's been plenty of times where some fool runs down into a dungeon before the party catches up. The fool gets overwhelmed and runs back up the stairs and out. He has now accidentally set up a stair trap for everyone. Upon alerting the party to this...
- Hardcore players will often recreate the game.
- Softcore players will often risk it. Player X: "Hmm, should we recreate?". Player Y: "Nah, we'll be fine. Go go go!". PLAYER X & Y WERE SLAIN BY ???.

Aside from strategy, here's my real reason for playing hardcore only. It's supposed to be an RPG!!! Whatever kind of RPG you'd like to classify it as, it's still an RPG. You're supposed to get into the game and feel as though you are the character you've created. When you die - that's it. Too bad, tough luck. I remember back in 2000 when I bought Diablo 2. It was softcore, obviously, and I 1st died on Duriel. I was then resurrected in Lut Gholein and I remember thinking to myself, "Uhh... this kinda sucks now. My sorc has failed, she should be finished". It was tainted. DARTH-LAOSHI HAS DEFEATED THE PRIME EVILS AND SAVED HUMANITY! TOO BAD HE HAD TO DIE 500 TIMES TO DO IT. How could I look Tyrael in the face?!

As far as "OMG, what about all the hours I invested into my character?!"... are you kidding? During those hours you were playing a video game and having fun. Same as playing a game that has no save option. Who are you trying to impress? If you post a screenshot of your 8 characters at lvl 99 with "godly" gear, you'll get a post from me sincerely saying "hey, great job". But guess what? By tomorrow I will have forgotten all about it. No one really cares. If you're playing just for yourself... well, you'll still be a lot prouder of yourself when your 1 Hardcore character finishes the game, than all of your other 7 softcore one's... no matter how many times you had to start over to do it. By the way, what are you going to do when you have 8 polished softcore characters? Never play again? But you want to try a new one? OMG, what about the 2 months "wasted" on that one?!?! Get over it.

It's just like real life. Sometimes you have to learn how to do it correctly to earn pride and respect, not just do it the easy, shortcut way, which no one cares about. I think when the game was released it should've been Hardcore only. Then when enough noobs cried and complained about never getting past HELL ACT 1, Blizzard could've added a little cutie softcore mode. Hahaha! That would've been perfect, cuz then a softcore player would KNOW he's a bitch .
