map request!! plz help

hey. I've been looking a bunch and I've come to a conclusion that there is no such thing as the map I want. So I was wondering (since I'm a horrible map-maker) if anyone could make it for me. I want an RPG based on the book Sabriel (by Garth Nix). Obviously, if you haven't read it, you're gonna have to. It's an awesome book, the beginning of a trilogy (Sabriel, Lariel, Abhorsen). If you're interested, it's a fantasy/magic kinda book so if you like that and you like making maps this is the job for you.

Unfortunately, I can offer nothing in return (except of course the credit for the map) so you're gonna have to make it just for the enjoyment of making a cool map. plz help, thx.

PS. or if you want I can make you some sort of graphic. I'm ok with them (not great, but ok)

well, for starters, you are going to have to tell us ALL about the story line, the characters, the enemies, the weapons and such.

well thats kinda a waste of time, you're gonna have to read the whole thing. The book can describe it better than I can. I'm guessing since you have access to the internet, you should also have access to a library, from which you can borrow the book. It's only a few hundred pages I think, so you should be able to read it in a couple days. (I think it's like 700 pages)

a couple days? I read a 300 page book in about 3/4 of a day. (like 6-8 hours)

lol, 2-3 days is a couple days.....reading a book seems like an awful lot of work just to create a massive rpg for someone else.....but hey, i might even do it if i didnt: a) go to school or b)leave my house for any other reason (or c)sleep )....

you could always be a really cool person and make it yourself.....(mapmakers are cool)

like I said earlier, I'm a horrible mapmaker. I try. But I suck, even with GUEdit and such. Anyways it's an awesome book and if I could I would make the map, but I can't. I mean reading the book shouldn't seem like the work, it should seem like an extra enjoyable part in the deal.

By the time I'd finish the book, you'd be a very good map maker. You just got to try. I'm sure most map makers today weren't very good when they started. I was the lucky one. Made my first map and got it popular.

I downloaded GUEdit and loaded one map and screwed aroudn with it then I closed it and opened another map and it wouldnt load and then all of a sudden no other maps would load, not even the first one I loaded. I'm hopeless.

OK then close guedit and open up guedit again... I think...

ya I did that and it worked but it's all weird and I have no vlue how to work it in accordance with or without StarEdit. like I said, I need someone to make the map for me. I mean I'd love to be able to make maps and I imagine it's a great feeling to be working hard on a map and have it work, and the book's great... so I just need someone who's interested.

Do you even know the basics to map making?
create terrain, create basic triggers, place units on map, etc

uhh ya I can do a bit in Staredit. Making a regular map like Melee is fine but UMS triggers dont really work in it. actually sometimes the comps dont do anything. it's weird. basically: I'm a newb.

Man, I've never really been through the stage you're going through right now.
I was checking out a map once and I understood from that.

I understand how to do triggers and such it's just I only know how to do it in StarEdit and they only work half the time cuz of stupid StarEdit

Well that's why you start your quest with the easiest type of map you can make.

Mass maps are very easy to make
Defense maps are up next
RPGs are probably the hardest

but can any of them be made with StarEdit? I don't think the triggers would work. I just can't figure out the better editors. Like you need to import triggers and if you're importing from a staredit map wouldn't they be just as messed up? I dunno. I mean I could try it... Ya I guess I will. Thanks.

BTW a guy msged me and said he could help me with the editors and he said he'd start today so ya...
