| Cool Map Effects As we all know, the map not only has to have quality game play to be good, but it also has to look good. In this case it's bw maps. I make a lot of maps and I was wondering if anyone could send a map or an idea of ideas for map effects, for example: Burning bunkers (already know how), cloaked units attacking, etc.
((by the way, for future self-reference, i'll get to the point in future threads)):hbut

| New Ideas? You should make a repeatedly dying Cloaked cannon... Other then that I don't think you can make any thing "new" I think everyone knows how to do everything.

| Hey, there's always bolt's trick, it's kinda cool...
All you do is make a bunch of ____...
then add a trigger to ____...
And presto!

| That didn't make sense... Why don't you actually tell him so he can add it to his "cool effects" list.

| Well, you really don't need to explain anything new, just things i dont know. Like cloaked units attacking and anything else, if there is anything else. I'll try that idea matrix, thx.

| as we all know? what the hell you mean by that? you dont need "cool things" and "looking good" to make a map good. no one gives a shit about that. its like "ooo he can do those things" who gives a crap? what I would be impressed about is a GOOD MAP, not a map showing off all your happy things you can do with your editor. change your sig if you believe that you need "cool things" to make a good map, my god, so dumb. I despise you. |

| Sometimes it's the atmosphere that makes the difference between the game sucking and being good...

He likes the idea, and so do I. Also, there's a map by drunken wrestler that's got some pretty cool stuff. I don't think it will fit here. Nope its 608KB but its got some pretty cool special effects. It's big because its got a like 5 minute song playing. Anyway, give me your email address and I'll mail it to you. Anyway, you can sorta see PSY power without clicking on a pylon, and he's got cool machine shops and stuff. |

| all I know is that I play starcraft to play good maps, not cool looking maps. simple as that. I have nothing against "cool" maps such as the one you describe, I like them in a way, but they are definitely not to be confused with good maps. and the cool things in good maps usually drags the map down to just be a cool map in my opinion. fritfrat2000@yahoo.com for that map, it sounds pretty interesting |

| personally id rather spend the time making another map than creating special effects....unless they are for an rpg, and then i go all out to get the fx for my rpgs lookin good....
fx can really help an rpg by drawing the player in with graphical interchanges, as opposed to simply textual....but in say a defense map or whatever, i dont think its really necessary and is somewhat a waste of time....
but its not my time, so again, i dont really care

| kirby dude, ur looking at this the wrong way, im not saying the fx are all or most of the map making...what im saying is that its a part of it, whether its 50%, 25%, or 1%. The point is i want some cool effect ideas to add to my map, not use to the limit.

So even if the creator told you the triggers for a lot of things it is doubtful that you could incorporate it into the map and have. Unless of course your talking about simple stuff like cloaking a marine, looping wavs, animated in game text, or doodad doors.
I believe with a little creative since and a good knowledge of the triggers anyone can create cool effects. There is no reason to confine yourself to the limits of other peoples creations. |

| LoL I was proud of that reply anyways. Cloaking a marine
-Disable doodad state for the marine
-Have a human player detect the marine with a detector of some sort or by owning the marine them self Looping wavs
-Mostly commonly the wavs are looped with a wait owned by a computer player
Players:
Computer Player
Conditions:
-Always
Actions:
-Set Custom Score to 1
-Wait (time of wav)
-Preserve Trigger
-Preserve
=============
Players:
-Human Force
Conditions:
-Current player's custom score is exactly 1
Actions:
-Play Wav "my music"
-Set Custom score for current player to set to 0
-Preserve Trigger Animated in game text
To do this you need to each part of text needs to take up the entire text space (11 lines) so the next displayed text will be exactly where the first is.
Ill use a Period (.) to represent a blank line
[-Display Text]
.
.
.
.
the letters here will grow
.

[-Display Text]

THE LETTERS HERE WILL GROW

Thats a basics of it its just like mission briefings but you have to fill in the extra space so it doesn't just scroll up. Doodad Doors
All doors should be disabled for "all players"
Disabled = Open / Enabled = Close
Avoid using Toggle and don't write triggers so that the door will close on a person standing there. (use conditions bring exactly 0)

| Those are relatively easy. Why don't you reveal the ones where you:
snap a finger and a marine appears
drink a glass of water and then you get to be xel'naga |

| I was j/k. Oh, you could also do the one where you do 20 jumping jacks and the game gives you 100,000 minerals and gas! Or maybe even the one where you stick a sock in your ear and the game crashes!
