| How do you unprotect maps?? Here goes nothing. I was searching the web for Starcraft stuff that I can't remember now but I found this website that told how to "unprotect" maps, using all of these wierd techniques. It is possible, and I would really like to find out how because I lost the website URL and name. Please help me, anyone, please. Thanks!!! - The_Matrix_Reloaded

| Beats me, although I'd like to know too. If you figure out, tell me--I know of several maps that I'd like to edit because the user forgot a win trigger or decided that first grade english was sufficient enough for all of his message triggers. Either that or I want some of the sounds to use in my maps. I feel that I should have a right to all of their content considering I don't lock or encrypt mine, and I feel that people in general need to work together rather than rip a person's map off. If we were all happy little clams we'd be sharing maps and triggers and sounds, but no, dang map stealers. BAH! Anywho, tell me if you figure it out. |

| If eitehr of you ever un-protect a single map i will have to rate you in my head as TOTAL NEWBIES.
When people protect maps, it's for a reason, they don't want little snoopers to come in and steal their hard work.

| Ah yes, but there is always that subtle difference between "stealing" hard work and kindly "sharing" hard work. I don't lock my maps because I think that even if it will get stolen, which it probably will, it allows a person to see it and how I did much of it. For one map, I couldn't figure out how to give the neutral units to another player. But then, I looked in one unlocked Turret Defense, was able to copy a trigger, and finished my map.
Personally, I think locking maps is quite frustrating, to say the least. I have seen well made maps that could have used a subtle correction to make them the best maps ever, but I cannot get into them to merely change something such as the amount of upgrades. Take Starship Troopers SE, for instance. Actually, I can get the map by e-mailing the guy, but why go through all that trouble? I have been able to beat that flawlessly each time, due solely to the fact that his anti-medic wall trigger does not cover a large enough location and due to the fact that he has fifty+armor upgrades possible. With 50 armor, you become invincible. The arbitors are pretty cheap too, considering the enemy doesn't have shared vision. I would quickly alter this to make it harder and more fair, which in turn would make it more fun. HOWEVER, the map is LOCKED! So, instead, we get to see these possible treasure troves get lost beneath the endless pile of defenses and bounds. These reasons here should be a good reason to leave a map unlocked or at least release and unlocked version, shouldn't they?
YES people may steal the hard work, but there is also the pride that a person should receive in knowing that THEY might have inspired a person to make a good map because THEY felt it unnecessary to lock their map containing all their time and knowledge. I don't get too mad when a person steals my maps--I figure it will happen. However, I do feel good knowing that occasionally a map maker is out there that is inspired by my ideas and decides to make a different map using many of the triggers I have created. Heck, if I found some odd way to make a new unit that was actually playable over bnet, there is no way that I'd just use this new unit in all of my maps and lock them all. I would want to see my work in other maps, as well.
Just my two cents worth of sense. I believe that map making should be a community of sharing ideas, which includes triggers. Ideas locked away are about a good as using a refrigerator for soccer. Creating triggers can be quite lengthy--it took me about ten hours for a single map of perfectly timed spawn triggers--so why not share them?
Plus, if you un-protect a map, it has to use at least some thought in unprotecting it, so why would we be considered Total Newbies? =P |

| The site with the information is: Link removed
You can just go under the Starcraft Hacking forums to find the site. Don't go abusing this information. Althought I've never used this idea to unprotect a map.

| I would like to say that defending againsed map stealers or hideing your information or wavs is not the only reason people protect maps.
I made a very large map called House of the Haunted this map is somewhat popular but it is 666kb (about 8 times the size of a normal map) if i left this unprotected then there would be many people that would open the map and look around. Thats not the problem though the problem comes when they close the map and hit save creating a extra copy of the map to be distributed and overwrite the existing one creating a endless download struggle.
It is always nice when you join a game and you already have the map. Without map protection this would not be possable |

| Nice point Bolt.
Bad thing you did a poor job protecting that map, i somehow stumbled on a copy of the terrain (someone used a .scm/x converter and somehow made a .jpg of your whole map) saved me crap loads of time playing .

| Thanks all, and anyways, tassadar920, the reason I want to unprotect a map is because I've never beaten Heaven Bound. I had Battle.net before but it stopped working. I havent been able to beat it and I need 3 people so what I wanted to do was create 2 extra zerglings so I could beat it. That simple. Well, thanks. - The_Matrix_Reloaded

Maximum size: 200000 bytes
Click on the browse button and find the file. Remember what it says below the browse button. Those files are only valid.
If you would click on the quote button then the Attach file box is not at the bottom of the post. It's somewhere in the middle. |

I donate my kidneys, so should you..
err, thats basically what you're saying, If you don't protect your maps thats your own problem, most maps need to protect because of the color changing, opening a map with changed colors reverts it. If you want the sounds look for them on a search engine. There is another way of getting sounds out of a protected map, but I'll leave that up too people who apply themselves to getting sounds. If he forgot the win trigger, who cares just don't play it again if you dont' want too lose after you beat it.

| If the public knew how to unprotect maps, why the hell bother protecting your map? People who protect thier map obviously don't want people to edit them. You claim you only want sounds and to learn from triggers but I say that's a load of crap because you all have hidden agendas.
There are probably over six threads on how to unprotect maps, this thread will be forgotten and someone else will start a new thread asking this same damn question.

| First rule of unprotecting maps: Do not inquire about how to unprotect maps.
