Considering that Blizzard has produced the titles SC, WC, and Diablo I don't think any game that create now its going to have any fresh ideas or concepts if they step outside the worlds they have already created.
Interesting point. But I think that if they try to create something new it will be risky. Let's take for example 3DO who produced Heroes which was a big contestant for Warcraft even if Heroes was not an rts.
