What do you want to see on BF? Here's our budget...

Alright guys, the adsense check came in for BattleForums.com, and I've also put together some money from the private advertisers. All in all, we have around $1,000 to spend on whatever we want to improve BattleForums.com for the better.

This money will go purely into development of BF. The actual advertising afterwards will come out of my own pockets.

I have been working with a single programmer on a portal page for BF, which will only feature stuff like articles. We need more if we want to make it in this web 2.0 era. So, here's your chance to give in any ideas as to REALLY improve BF for the better. Should we have an arcade? Should we have a chat room? Should we have live scheduled game meetings? I'd like to hear your ideas .

Lastly, I'd like to make clear that I am 100% serious about this. So, if you're not, please do not post in this thread (no screwing around or trying to be an *******). This is a serious discussion thread where we come up with quality ideas as a whole.

So, post :-).

Thank you,
Donny

PS, I know we all hate changes, but seriously, BF has to change if we want to see its former glory (2003-2004). So, expect some major changes in the coming weeks/months (input always welcomed).

Oh man I was so tempted to just post "TITS", but I guess I should actually post something.
I think we should just really build up on SCII, you know update **** more often (*cough* Wing).

But with money, if you could get tickets to get someone to something like blizzcon that would be awesome.

all the hippest sites now a days are leaving the web 2.0 look and jumping on the grunge bandwagon...i'd also like to see one of those neato chat rooms...not one that requires you to download extra software or use some stupid client....more like a shoutboard but bigger, it MIGHT help to alleviate spam (prob not)

Re: What do you want to see on BF? Here's our budget...

I think a lot of the stuff that could be done to improve BF really doesn't require money..

Keep things updated..try to better the gaming forums..add more useful content, etc. Maybe set up some "events" that revolve around the games we support? I'm not entirely sure, but I think if it's focussed on our purpose (gaming..specifically blizzard at the moment) it has a chance of helping.

Hacks are great for about a week, and that's about it. They help for a very short period of time.

Yeah, tickets to BlizzCon and places like video game fairs would be a good idea. I would suggest real prizes for game contests as well, sort of like what you did back in February, but you'll need to drive more activity up and have more people who are dedicated in playing the games.

And I'd like to see more than just a separate area and a shiny title for Premium members. You know, give people motivation to actually want go Premium for the right reasons.

Content.

All this place is is us *****ing in general sections. Our gaming sections are dead because there is no content.

We offer no reason to join.

Re: What do you want to see on BF? Here's our budget...

Cheeze actually brought up something I was just about to bitch about, lol.

This login crap is getting old real fast. Can somebody with l33t t3chnic@l ski77z fix this nonsense? Thank you, that is all.

Oh, and btw I agree with the Blizzcon tickets, content updates, and general observations of the others here...although I can't say that bringing in any gimmick hacks would be our best idea...they go stale too fast.

Content, efficient management, and effective advertising: win.

However...getting new members wouldn't be very useful if we can't keep them. BF in general needs an attitude adjustment. Instead of spending that money on site stuff, I suggest we send a handful of our most assinine members to behavioral therapy. Ok, joking but not joking. Heads out of arses, guys.

Re: What do you want to see on BF? Here's our budget...

EWric tried to cover up his lack of anyhting with a bunch of useless hacks that added nothing to the site. But when anyone questioned that he was useless he could point at the hacks and go "that".

I definately do think some of the older members need to stop just abusing any of the new memebers. In that sense only the hardcore new memebers who can take it stay and everyone is scared away.

Re: What do you want to see on BF? Here's our budget...

I don't have to login anymore, Idk why it doesn't work for you guys.

But anyways, I liked that game contest thing, we should have actually tournaments and ****, like so when it's over, people talk about the last tournament and stuff. And also people get bragging rights, and maybe even a night little title (kinda like a championship belt) that can be taken away by losing the next championship/tournament.

Re: What do you want to see on BF? Here's our budget...

The login problem is solved (hopefully). Let me know if it's still there.

Alright, so I think that contests at regular intervals would do great for the site, and definitely make things more lively. Let me see if I can get some blizzcon tickets for you guys.

I also agree with the overall behavior of the regular members here at BF. We just aren't all that nice to the new members . Apparently, disciplining members and abusing our powers as staff members does not work. Bribing doesn't work either. So, the only real way to change the overall environment and atmosphere of BF is if we all want to, and are willing to contribute to this 'cause'.

So, let's try our best to keep all flaming and negative posts in the asylum (which I'll make invisible to guests anyways ), while us staff will try to remind you every so often.

I just can't do it myself. All I can do is create and organize contests/events as often as possible. So, it's really just up to you to motivate myself, and each other to really make BF a better place for everyone.

Now here's my to-do list:
- Organize and plan out contests at regular intervals
- Set up an arcade on the portal page
- Set up a live shout-box style chat in the forums
- Get some blizzcon tickets!

Now what do you guys think about re-activating the reputation system again? Also, what about member-of-the-month's (with prizes of course)?

Thank you,
Donny

Re: What do you want to see on BF? Here's our budget...

Reputation will be abused no matter what, making anti-abuse protection only makes it harder to do reputation.

MotM will most likely end up in a poll voted by band wagoners or people using multiple accounts.
