Victim of War - A Short Story

Well yes, I enjoy writing short stories and such about the WWII, here's one I recetnly wrote. Oppinions would be appreciated.

The bullets were zinging by his head, narrowly missing him. He was crawling across the debris-ridden streets of Falaise, when he heard a faint cry from his left.

"Someone gimme cover!"

He looked around and found the man, lying on the second floor of a blown-out building, setting up a .30 CAL. There were two Infantry Men on either side, and both were facing the direction the machine gun was posted.

"Idiots", he mumbled, and got up and pulled his Thompson at the ready. While he wasn't quite used to it yet, his Thompson had been newly appointed to him at his promotion to Master Sergeant, it was a good, reliable, and tough gun, great to get you out of a tough situation, and perfect for providing cover fire.

Zing. A bullet zinged by his ear, narrowly missing him. He quickly ran behind a piece of rubble and glanced to his left. Another shot rang off and hit the debris in front of him. He readied his Thompson, and slowly crawled out from the left side of the debris. He aimed as quickly as possible and squeezed off 3 quick, 4-round bursts. He heard the Kraut hit the ground, got up, and ran to the .30 CAL.

He noticed the two infantrymen were PFCs, and were providing as much cover fire as they could with their carbines. It brought back good memories, he loved his old M1 Carbine, but now was not the time for nostalgia.

He rummaged through his pack and fonud what he was looking for. He dropped 2 Carbine clips next to the Infantry Men, he still had some in his puches, and quickly reloaded his Thompson. After further inspection, he noticed the Machine Gunner was none other then his buddy and squad leader, First Sergeant Gandy.

"Like shootin' fish in a barrel" he heard Gandy shout over the noise of the .30 CAL. He chuckled and looked for a good place to provide covering fire. He found a perfect little hole in the back of the building, hopped onto his stomach, and scanned left and right. To his left were what appeared to be the ruins of an old, black, burnt courthouse, and to his right was a clocktower. Straight ahead of him were many small houses. He glanced to his left. Did something just move? He kept his eyes trained on the spot until he saw a bullet shoot a hole off to his left. He squinted even harder to see and 4 more bullets went zinging by, one of them narrowly missing his ear. He finally spotted the Kraut, and thank god he had bad aim. He noticed him trying to reload, but in the heat of the moment, the Kraut couldn't seem to re-load quickly enough. This gave him just enough time to aim for the head. He squeezed off a round and blood splattered everywhere. Although hard to witness, he knew he was just another victim of what would later be known as World War II.

And your alone once again
Will you pop up again and be my special friend
Till the end and when will that be

Meh. Boring. So what, he shoots a guy at the end. Big deal. This seems more like an excerpt from a story rather than a story in itself.

well, sorry, it's the first one I wrote. It'll be better next time.

Sounds like someone's a little action-thirsty

Actually it was more of the fact that it wasn't as much of a story as a few random action scenes with no way of knowing what happened before that. Why were there germans attacking them? Where were they? Etc.

He said it was about WWII, hmmm. I wonder why there would be Germans. As for the story, it was more like you were giving a description of a really bad war game.
