The Void Part 1

it is more honorable for the country to die for its people, rather than having the people die for it

~Neo-Republican Aphorism

The attack happened without warning, and in the waxing dawn, great pillars of smoke could be seen rising from the shattered hulks that had once borne the form of majestic buildings. The once awe-inspiring cityscape now looked sickly and decrepit, an appearance accentuated by the shrill screams that directly followed the bombs.

The citizens of Amsten were no stranger to this type of unprovoked brutality, as bombs had become almost as common as rain in recent years. However, there was to way to grow accustomed to the insurmountable number of deaths that turned the air rank with the stench of putrefication.

Here and there people scrambled about the rubble, more to minimize their chance of being hit by debris raining from the ruined buildings towering above them than to partake in the looting that had grown rampant in recent days.

It was this tangible incarnation of hell that Keplar Garron awoke to, with a pounding headache. All around him were dead or dying civilians, and the only thing rivaling the volume of their screams was the scream of the occasional skip-bomber overhead, no doubt seekig to clear the area of survivors. Limbs appearing to be in working order, Kep slowly got to his feet, keeping in mind that as long as he was alive, he was a target for the vigilant warplanes overhead. Kep decided to take his chances and run from the dank pile of rubble that was undoubtedly soon to become a mass grave. Nobody obstructed his exit, owing to lack of appendages or willpower. Kep could not help but feel a shred of despair at not being able to help these people, but he had not forgotten his mission. Turning away from the vista of carnage that had cradled him in his restless sleep the night before, he started off into the hulk of a city that had once borne the name Amsten with proud glory, and vanished into a shroud of thick, oily, smoke....

Yeah, I know you dont really know whats going on, but this is just the intro....i hope to make it clear later.

Constructive criticism would be nice?
