Help w/ Photo Shop

Kay, so i'm a total noob at Photoshop (which I made my sig in), so could you help me abit? I've always wondered how you guys put in images without distorting the background (making it look black, while the rest'll be like white).

How do you fix that? I'm sure I could make better sigs n' stuff if I knew this. Thx.

If you are referring to invisible parts of images you create a .gif file and just highlight/delete the unwanted space.

you have to save it as a .gif also, make sure u delete that part of the image completely, youll know its transparent when it has grey and white tiles behind it
