Board Games

Board games... you probably think about risk, scrabble and mono-polishat.

Okay, well these are the worst games there. You really have to look at what's being made these days and you'll be amazed. I know I was. So yea, I went to boardgamegeek, which is the biggest site for these games. I still don't know a lot, but I'm slowly getting used to it... So here are my 3 picks:

1) Shadows Over Camelot
This is a co-op game that can play with 7 players. However loyalty cards are given out and one player in your group can secretly be the traitor! You must finish quests, vanquish the traitor and save camelot to win. I got this game a few days ago after playing it once somewhere else and it's great fun. It has nice art, great pieces and it's easy to learn and play.

2) Cosmic Encounter
This game is about alliances. You are an alien and you have colonized on 5 planets. What you try to do is colonize on 5 more planets that other players control. The game plays with up to 4 players and each player can be one of 20 aliens, each sporting a unique power. Again, it's easy to learn and play.

3) Fluxx
This is a simple card game that can be played with up to 6 players. It's a totally random game. The way to win the game changes because those are cards too. But a condition someone puts down can be replaced, so you'll see the rules and goals changing everywhere.

These are 3 games I would have never heard about, but I have. Board games are fun with friends, so try the new ones and not the old, mainstream ones.

Stratego > all traditional boxed board games.

Chess > all games played on a board, period.

I guess the wimpy, traditional versions are...but chess seems like the most high-class "board game" ever made, greater even than checkers.

I mean, how many beautifully crafted crystal Monopoly games are there? Chess is hardly a game anymore...it's more of a religion.

Chess is a demanding game. But the quality of games depends on players more. It's a game that REALLY demands players to be on the same level of skill.

Shadows over Camelot is a fun game however. It's coop, it's easy to play, it suits up to 7 players and playing it is great. I've played it 17 times already and I'm still having fun. I suggest you guys try it out someday if you ever think about board games.
