Blizzard's official StarCraft correspondent on the forums finally answered what many were asking. StarCraft II will require no monthly payment to play online!
Adding a subscription fee will not stop the kiddies from playing. If you've ever played wow you'll know that a large chunk of the populace are 12 year olds who get daddy to foot the bill so they can log on and act like... well, 12 year olds.

Ofc no payment lolz pfff, I can't imagine a Blizzard RTS requiring a monthly fee... But except for retail, are there any other buying options that may have a fee? Like online purchases?

Hasn't that always been like that for the original SC? If payment were required, it would have to become something like WOW2 and drive initial SC fans out.
