help with barb in hell diff

Hi, i'm somewhat new at D2 and have some prety basic questions. First I want to know of some good equipment to use for a barbarian in hell mode. I have a lvl 87 and I'm currently using Immortal Kings set. I can barely kill meph in hell mode, and die instantly if I go any further than meph by myself. Is IK really as good as it seems, or is there something better. I have lvl 13 shout, battle cry, and battle orders, 20 pts in sword mastery (i know for ik it should be in mace, but this is my first char), about 8 or so in iron skin and elemental resist, 20 in whirlwind, and 10 in concentrate. What areas should I add skill points to, and what is the best equip for a barb? Thanx all

Not to knock you in any way, but since you are new to D2, check out the build guides here they are some of the best. This will keep you character at its best, build wise. IK is a good set for a beginning character, but their is way better. Unfortunitlly it will be expensive for anyone just starting out in the game. 1 thing I noticed from what you have put down as your skills, is that you do not have berzerk. Put 1 point into that at max, it is a good skill to take on single enemies that are tough. Another + is to have a good supply of mana, and life leech. Elemental damage is also good. Once again check out the build guides. Welcome to Battleforums.

EDIT:

This should help you out a bit. Also try to get a character for magic finding. Perferably a sorc, so you dont have to get close to danger.

i personally suggest remaking yourbarb, i know you dont want to, butif you want to be able to kick damn near anythings ass in hell mode you wouldhave to, and make it a frenzy/bo barb. max frenzy double swing, battle orders, sword mastery, 1 in increased speed, incresed stamina, natural res, iron skin, bc, and rest into shout.as for stat points, save them till about lvl 85 or so, ortill when you can use all your stuff. the gear i recommend is a 5 bo delirium, a 40/15 ias arreats face ebotd cb x2, 13xx enigma, verdungos, 2 perfectbk rings, gore rider, soul drainers, chaos noose ammy, and 2 hotos. in the inventory get 10 wcgcs and an anni, any anni will do, all you need it for is the res and 1 to all skills save the stat points till you are high enough lvl to use all your gear and then put as little into dex andnone in energy, try to go 50/50 with life and strength, for more dmg and better chance of living. i did this with a barb and was rushing in hell better than a hammerdin doing 14k with each hammer, i did 8-10k each sword. as for going pvp, well, this isnt a pvp build, more or less a pvm build meant for rushing.

First of all, dont put anything in the mastery skills, bcuz you dont kno what weapon you will like in the game.
Second off, why so many in sword mastery? i dont even have that in axe mastery, and i have like a f-cking strong battle axe that will kill meph in like 9 hits... not like i counted or anything... lol

i doubt he can afford the perfect barb gear, since he just started w/ barb and is still using ik set... i suggest you keep your ik set and just remake your whole barb, i had an ik barb when i was first starting out and you should be able to kill hell ancients easy

depending on what skills you put your extra points into, it does, it also adds health bonus and mana bonus, so in a way, it does matter a bit, but not as much as the proper skills and proper gear.

Remake your barbarian when you know the following for certain:
  • You know what kind of Barbarian you want.
  • You know what kind of weapon he will use.
  • You know what skill plan you're going to use.
  • You know what gear you'll need.

Until then, continue messing with that bard if you have any more questions. Remaking a Mace Barb for the IK Set would be a nice way to start off. Then MF in Hell, or NM, whichever is easier and work your way up from there respectively. MFing with a barb is doable, but it can be taxing at times.

yes it is taxable but its worth it due to the fact that if you have a frenzy barb with 2 double isted or non isted babas skuldurs, travs, chance guards, etc you will be able to find more than enough stuff, and i sujuest gettin a mf bot as well.

thanx for all the input guys it really help. Yeah I think i'm going to rebuild this barb and give him max mace mastery, max concentrate, bc, bo, as main skills. I've been rushing ppl in nm allot lately, and have gotten allot richer by doing so and have all of tal rasha set except the ammy (get that next um rune) I'm thinking of making a lightning or ice sorc for my next char

Well, you could concentrate on a Sorceress for MF Purposes. With Tals Set, you have a pretty good setup right there and you could be ither a cold/lightning sorc or even a fire sorc. If you do make one, you can MF and find better gear for both your sorceress and maybe your barbarian when you remake him, which pays off tremendously in the end. (A good FM character.)

I might be a little late, but if he see's this it could save him some trouble.. Unless your barb has top of the line gear he's not going to be very effective at pvm with the exception of the ability to tank, although he is one of the most party friendly characters with WC's, so if you get in a group you could be okay. But if you want to go pvm, I'd recommend a sorc since you can get the best results with the least gear.

Well my lit sorc is complete, and she's at lvl 89 with 315% MF, and she gets some very nice items. I've got shako, tal armor, ammy, and belt. I'm aware of what soj is, my only question is what the heck are, "war travs," and especialy occy??? (i've seen games where thy're trading "occy 4 pul,"..etc). I'll try to get those items, and try it out, i've gotten tons of um's and cashed them in for 5 ist, so i've got some rune monny 2 "shit those items out" now!!! muahahahhaah
