Diablo Mod Take 2

So. The last thread was less than productive.
I hope this one will do better.
Any off topic posts or flamming will be voided. No exceptions.

First off.
We got a small list of people that can work on the mod. I am looking to make this list official so we can get this started. If you want to be added to the list ask me. Tell me what you want to be incharge of and ill add you.

Chris - Development once I learn MPQ editing, Help Vad in Item Design/Idea Pool.

I am thinking we should each like make a set of our own choosing (since we are the ones who are "authoring" the game. I had this really nice setup for an 8 piece set I wanted to make (if the game will allow me 8 pieces), I can easily supply the graphics for it, and I know the perfect base items it should be (got the idea when while I was equipping my sorceress).

But I got a ****load of ideas
I could also help think up an actual custom story for the mod, it would give the mod uniquiness.

Yeah, I'm not sure if I could manage an 8piece set. I haven't looked at the Sets txt file, not sure how many slots it allows you. I'm pretty sure I could do at least 5 items though, possibly 6.

I'm thinking that since I'm really not able to actually play this game, not even to test stuff, I'll probably work off of my own txt files to make the new uniques and items and stuff, and then send the files to one of our alpha testers. They can wrap them into an MPQ and give it a whirl, to test out our items, and then once I've gotten everything fully written and debugged, I can just send over the item txts to the person managing the final product.

What I meantersay is, have a separate "submod" that is simply for testing items and such. I make each new item type or unique be in a particular monster's treasure class with a temporary level req of 1, so that a level 1 char in Blood Moor can have a damn good chance of getting the particular new item in question.

I may even make temporary "filler" treasure classes consisting only of the specific item in question, so that you have a 100% of getting the new Unique the first time you kill a Fallen in Blood Moor. I'm pretty sure that's not beyond my abilities.

Oh, and I also have a fairly decent idea of the way basic mechanics work...if there are any particular things that people decide they want to try to put into play, such as the "Custom shopkeeper" idea that was tossed around in the previous thread, I can try to help out with the "avenue of approach" to doing some of that stuff. I don't know the coding syntax or the proper inputs for the various variables, but I do pretty much know what would need to be done to accomplish that...like what fields to be edited and such.

What I'm saying is that I can serve as a bit of a knowledge box as well, just a helping brainstormer to work on the more "challenging" concepts that would make this a truly unique mod.

I totally agree, without a test mod we will not know where to go from the parts we make. Like for every new person we need to check it out and see if we need to fix it up in any way. We also would need to put in a story behind each of the characters.

Sure, the items I create, I can package together into a RAR and send it to one of our testers, and he can package it into an MPQ (or just run it directly from the txt files, which may actually be preferable if we'll be doing this a lot more often) and play for a few minutes to make sure that there are no bugs with the stuff.

I can get some feedback on how the items are doing, and any bugs that need fixing. Also, each item I create that gets tested this way, I'd like to have a Screenshot made so that I can see my handiwork. =)
