Problem with a cartridge

One of my SNES cartridges is kind of broken. When I put it in it will load, but only until it shows the copyright date. After that, it just goes back to the opening sequence of the game, and it keeps on looping. It will not go past the copyright date.

I have tried cleaning it and blowing into it, but that doesn't help. Any other ideas/suggestions? Thank you.

Ahhh! DKC! Great game, even though Myamoto or someone said the only reason americans liked it was cuz it had good graphics...hmmm, sounds like something beyond the power of breathing air onto it...internal errors, missing command lines, stuff like that. Could be that the cartridge/console can't find the next protical line. Well, here's a thought, if you can, take an eraser and and rub it accross the electrodes on the outter chip, the part you slide into the system, sometimes those things get oxyginated and get corroded n' stuff, thus blocking info. Make sure you get a new clean, soft (a hard one will scrath up the electrodes) eraser, and of course, don't leave any of the shavings in it.

If that doesn't work, an electronics cleaner would be the next step, or a product going by a similar name as DeOxyIt (de-Oxygenator). You'll want to get something soft and clean to dry it out, and possibly even some compressed air in a can that's approved for use in/on electronics.

An eraser can fix an amazing number of oxidation problems when used properly -- clean and soft, but something more is needed on occasion. If it still doesn't work at that point, your game may well be gone.

Thank you guys for your suggestions. I'll try the eraser out later when I go buy a brand new one.

This is one of my favorite games of all time, and I'd hate to see it broken.

Well, it's all good, go to your local EB or something and pick up another copy for a few bucks.

Yeah, it isn't that expensive to begin with, you'll end up spending more cleaning it then you would buying a new one.

Many solutions. You can either find a way to repair your cartridge, like how bamthedoc said. Or you can download ZSNES and download the ROM to Donkey Kong Country. I have the ROM myself (actually all 3 DKCs) so it will work fine on your computer.

But does your SNES work on other games? If it doesn't, then it could be your SNES that is the problem.

I actually have SNESX9, but have not been able to find a rom.

It works perfectly fine for other games, so I don't think it is the system.

Sorry about the bump, but I figured out that the problem is my system. I tried the DKC on a friend's console, and it worked. So, I'm going to try to find a new Pin Connector and install it.

Do you think it is worth the trouble?

Now that is a difficult question to answer... I've never actually damaged a system that badly before...nor seen an error where it couldn't read one perfectly fine game and read the rest. It comes down to what cost you can get it repaired for. With the Revolution coming out, it may be just as well to "vintage" that SNES up and rely on WFC downloads to cover games there.

The first thing to do is price-compare various repair options, including Nintendo themselves.

I know, that was confusing me. It would refuse to read DKC, as well as some other games. But it worked fine for others like Super Mario World, Super Mario Kart, and Metroid Prime with absolutely no glitches at all. Thats why I thought it was a problem with the game pack and not the console. Weird.

I have done some research and found that a new Pin Connector is roughly about $20. Also, the special bit I need for opening up the console is about $10. It doesn't seem expensive, but I don't know if it will fix the problem 100%. At first I thought of buying a whole new console, until I found out that they are about $150 for used ones.

I totally forgot about the games available for download. But, it just won't feel the same, you know? It will definetly be an option though.

I am planning to fully refurbish my system, but the cost is in question. I'm going to look for some more information.

I know all about the refurbishing option XD I'm planning popping my NES open to tighten up some loose connection and solder some others. I also like this new thing I've heard about, and even seen, but haven't found yet. It's a "vintage player" system. It has slots to play NES, SNES, and N64 games. It was proposed by a third-party and authorized by Nintendo.

I just wish I could remember the name of the third-party and the system =/
