Verizon upgraded their service from 1.5mbps down to 3.0mbps down. I was experiencing some problems recently for a few days, then afterwards i noticed a decent speed increase. I'm guessing you're going through the same thing and it'll pass in a few days.
You might want to adjust some settings to compensate for the impending changes...
Go to http://www.broadbandreports.com/tweaks and run that tweak test. Download DrTCP and run the program with the suggested changes. Your advertised speed should be 3000 kbits.
